I just kind of let her hold it and stick it in her mouth and then I reached down and pushed the vibrator to show her what to do. Except for Sophie, And when I needed something cold, I would steam and puree an apple, put a teaspoon of the puree on a baby washcloth, twist it, and freeze it. We had normal teethers (cold and otherwise) and my kid never really got what they were for! Sometimes he sucked on them for a minute but mostly he thought they were toys.
