My family lives 8hr drive from us and we make the drive at least 2-3 times a year. I still don't feel it's enough!<br /> BIL is about 20 hrs away and we've done that drive a few times and flown at least once a year.<br /> It sucks that your brother isn't making the effort to come see you. But have you expressed it to him? I really have to hound my fam to come visit us!</p> <p>And I think once LO is here you &amp; baby can hop ion a plane and go visit! We lived across the country from each other. We were going to get together when my daughter was a couple months old, but his kids were sick so he didn't want to bring them around the baby, and then we weren't back in town again until she was one.</p> <p>It's part of the reason I'm so excited my sister is having a baby in the winter- she lives near us and we hang out all the time so my kids will have a cousin nearby! We do see my brother's kids more often now that we've moved closer to home, though. DD was born April 1, 2010 and aside from my BIL who came to the hospital the day after she was born it wasn't until Christmas 2011 that my SIL, niece and nephew met her. They lived pretty far from us - 15hr drive. They invited us to come to town to meet him, but we couldn't afford it the flight or to take the PTO, knowing I was pregnant. A few months ago, they moved even further away - to the west coast. We certainly won't be heading out there to visit anytime soon. </p> <p>Well, they took their son to a family wedding earlier this month that we couldn't attend because of how pregnant I was. So, my whole family has met my nephew except us. </p> <p>They had told us they were going to come to NC to visit my parents this summer. We were planning on seeing them when they were here. Now I find out they're not coming to town this summer. Am I ever going to meet our nephew?? Sigh. Just bums me out. I should note that they are much more well off than we are and can afford the flights and have the vacation time (she's a sahm, he started his new job a few months ago and hasn't taken any time off yet). </p> <p>Has anyone else had this experience where you didn't get to meet your nieces or nephews until they were older? Thanks for listening to me whine a bit. :-( </p>
