And then remembers everything he's ever wanted and buys it himself "while he's out". I bought and returned his gift three times one year when we were just dating and I had no real right to tell him how to spend his money. He kept suggesting we buy tickets and go, then started getting mad at me and was picking a fight after I kept shooting the idea down. Finally I was so upset that I just whipped the tickets out and gave them to him.
