No c-section, but very different vaginal births! With my first my water broke, it was 9 hrs, medicated, and no complications. My second was like 2 hrs, non-medicated, and baby ended up in NICU.

I have only had 1 baby, but I just wanted to let you know that I am prone to keloids as well (I have several from a prior surgery) and almost 6 months post c-section my scar is the furthest from a keloid, it barely looks like I had surgery.

First baby: 20 hour labor, epidural, vaginal delivery, no complications

Second baby: 6 hour labor, unmedicated, vaginal delivery, no complications

Every birth is different... I kept an open mind going into both, especially the 2nd. It's hard not to expect the same outcome or to not compare. I'm very blessed I had two smooth births, especially the second. All in all though, MOST times I hear that #2s go much faster and easier. But of course I have heard the opposite from some, including my own mom, where #2 had complications when #1 didn't.

Haven't had LO yet, but my Mom had very different experiences with me and my sister.

Me - 36 hour labor in the hospital, unmedicated, fought the entire time to stay drug-free, vacuum extraction, a lot of pain.

My sister - 2 hour labor, had the baby in the bathtub before the midwife arrived, very little pain, born in the amniotic sac.

I had two medicated, vaginal hospital births, but there was a point I was facing the possibility of a c-section with #2. It was really hard for me because I am super scared of surgery, but luckily I ended up being able to deliver vaginally. I did have some extra interventions/procedures (during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum) with #2, but that was worth it for me to be able to avoid a c-section the second time around.

@highwire: That's a lot of different experiences. I think the only one she's missing is a breech birth and then she'd have the full spectrum.

I'm still pregnant with my first, so I don't have anything useful to share.

Haven't birthed my first yet, but our doula has 6 kids and had different experiences for every one. I think they went like this:

#1 was a medicated, hospital birth
#2 was a natural, hospital birth
#3 was a premature, emergency c-section
#4 was a vbac
#5 was a vbac homebirth
#6 was a vbac home waterbirth

Reading the c-section thread about all the complications that led up to the actual c-section got me thinking...

I had a pretty smooth first delivery (unmedicated, vaginal birth), and am hoping the 2nd delivery will go even faster since that's usually the case with #2 (right??)

Has anyone here had a pretty smooth first delivery, but a complicated second delivery that ended up in c-section? The idea of getting cut open really scares me. Plus, I'm prone to keloids, so if I end up getting one I will have a nasty, itchy, raised scar for the rest of my life.
