@Mamaof2: DH would gladly do this if he knew for sure this is what we were waiting on. And he could draft it, but ultimately his boss really needs to put it together since it has to outlune the future of his group.

@MsLipGloss: my company is different and fortunately for me a cowrker of mine just went through this exact situation so I know what to expect. They would never let me keep my current job and work out of a different office, which is what DH is requesting. And they would also never "create" a job just for me since I want to move. There has to be an actual opening in the office I want to move to. So there is no benefit in me speaking to my company before either DH's transfer is in the works or I see that a job is posted.

@looch: exactly the same here. We thought it only needed 3 approvals up thechain and got the first two, but when it got to the most senior person instead of deciding he pushed the decision on two uninvolved senior people. They have no vested interest in making a decision, so instead of doing so they expressed concerns and asked formore info. I just don't know if this is essentially a "no" or not. I just want an answer so we can move on with ourlives!

@Modern Daisy: Not sure what the "business plan" involves but maybe your DH can offer to do it for him and then all his boss has to do is sign off on it?

I guess I was super lucky - no paperwork for me, I just needed to acquire space in a new office and get permission from the contract lead!

@Modern Daisy: If you think it might be a business plan issue, is that something your DH can prepare and let his boss submit?

I hate to say it, but 3 months really isn't that long of a timeline for a decision. Have you considered talking to your folks, and if you get a positive response, then going back to DH's folks and telling them (diplomatically, if they haven't made a decision), that you're just waiting on them?

@Mamaof2: thanks for the response and I'm glad to hear it worked out for you! If DH's boss wasn't being supportive then I might consider going above him, but he has. We think the ball is back in his court to come up with a business plan which he hasn't done. But we don't know this for sure as it's very difficult for DH to communicate with his boss in the first place since he spends most of his time working fromCA where his kids live and is rarely inthe office.

We did, last year. And I did about 5 years ago when I moved overseas.

The process was painfully slow. There's not much to be done about it because there are certain approvals that need to be done and senior managers need to "stand up and sell the case," then you have to arrange the relo package, then that needs to be approved or reworked, etc, etc.

Sorry its taken so long - I have actually moved 2 times and my company made the change for me within 2 weeks - once from MD to VA and then from VA to PA.

Can your DH go above his Boss and ask the next guy up whats going on?

I just need to vent and any advice is welcome.

Dh and I are trying to transfer from NYC to Philly to be close to my parents and have a lower cost of living. DH asked his company for a transfer in January, and they still haven't given us an answer. The request is stalled and we aren't sure of the status as it's been bounced around many times with no one willing to pull the trigger.

I am waiting to talk to my company until either we get a "yes" for DH or an actual job is posted in the location I want to transfer to. I've been monitoring the postings for months and nothing has popped up.

I'm just so frustrated and stressed at the lack of decision making from DH's company. It doesn't help that his boss is never in the office and very unresponsive although he does fully support the move and has been helping to push it along. I don't know at what point he should give up and start looking for anothe job.. Which neither of us want him to do since he loves his job and has been promoted.

Has anyone else been through this? How did the process go for you?
