@mrbee: I put him down at 11:20 knowing we'd be screwed if it was another short nap. Thankfully, he made it until 2 (still not enough, though, because he woke up screaming). Still, at least we should be able to put him to bed at 7, a slightly more normal time.

Hopefully this is the last day of this ... He's not eating well, either.

Ugh. Up at 530 this morning despite a restless night. Tried to coax an extra hour out of him, but no dice. Now the problem becomes naps. If I wait until his normal naptime he'll prob be OT. If I give him an earlier nap, he'll prob wake up too soon and be OT by bedtime.

Ughhhh. At least I finished my latest freelance project before this hit.

@mrs-yoyo: that's what we always manage to do with phrases like:

     "I think he's asleep now."
"He should definitely be out by now."

and the perennial jinx:

     "Well, he didn't nap, so..."

@Rubies: Yeah ... I think he'll really have to get worked up for me to go back in ... it's not worth it! Gone are the days when I could just nurse him back to sleep.

LO has been the same way (she's 18.5 months - almost the same age as your LO)...She has crying fits at night when she's sick. Her crying is hard but not 5-alarm and I rest assured because I literally time her crying and 3-4 minutes FEELS like a life time but she ultimately cries herself back to sleep. I know that if I go in, it'll make it worse. Unless it's a tragic 5-alarm cry, I won't even consider going inside.

@mrsyoyo and isn't it so weird, fever? DS was fine and then daycare called thurs and he spiked a random 103
Fever. It's hovered around 101 since then.

@mrsyoyo same, we paid a 45$ co pay! However they prescribed us something called cardec which will help with congestion and bring down fever.

DS hates meds too. I've found just putting the syringe at the back of his throat and holding his head straight really quick gets it over with fast!

I should also say this is the first night I haven't given him meds, but he felt fine before bed. Hesitant to do it now because he REALLY hates taking them and we have to physically hold him down. He still manages to spit out at least half of it. Ugh.

@matador84: Not a cold ... just some random virus. Fever but nothing else. I took him to the doc just in case to rule out anything else since the fever was really sudden and high. Nope, just a virus, which I had to pay a $25 copay to hear. Gah.

@mrbee: It varies. More than the normal whining but not quite five-alarm pissed-off. Just CLEARLY overtired. He may have cried himself back to sleep this time. *Knock on wood*

I can't wedge my arm very far through his crib slats -- they're kind of thick! Even so, it's just that we never have to do this, so if I'm in his room, that means UP, not sleep. So I'm better off only going in as a last resort! I would send in DH, but LO has wanted next to nothing to do with him while he's been sick, which has sucked for everyone (DH feels bad, I feel bad for him, and of course I can't catch a break).

How frantic is his crying?

Yesterday Olive was crying (not that hard tho) and so Bee went in there, but it made it worse! Bee ended up laying down next to Olive's crib and putting her hand on Olive's back... that helped!

LO is sick, and consequently has been sleeping poorly. Today he seemed to be just about over his fever, but his nap was still really crappy. We put him to bed super early to compensate, as we have the past few nights. It's only been 90 mins and he's already been up crying his head off twice. I went in once, shhhhed him, he screamed after I left, and then passed out. Thought we were in the clear. Nope, he's up again.

It's been so long since he's given us trouble that I have no flippin' clue how to get him to sleep when he's like this!
