I was 16 and only there for about 2 months. - I quit my next job (at another restaurant) to work for my first home builder. I didn't want to work in the service industry forever and I was afraid I would if I stayed. (I eventually ended up getting laid off from home builder #1 b/c the company sold) - I quite home builder #2 for a better opportunity, higher pay, more growth at h/b #3. Then in '08 #3 went under. - I quit my last job to come here because I hated my job with a passion there, and this opportunity landed in my lap just in the nick of time. But only one was because I really didn't like the job (2 weeks). Most of them were due to me outgrowing the position and moving on to something new. I was always there at least 3 years though, and my managers became BIG pains when I decided to move on. I have only been fired once, for no call no show. I put in notice 6mths, 3 mths, 1mth, a 2 weeks in advance that I could not work while my parents were out of town. He also knew that if I asked for time off, I didn't look at the schedule. Turns out he did it on purpose because I got another job at the YMCA for day camp counselor (I was planning on working both jobs, and he knew it), and he wanted to promote me to team lead/manager. So he thought he was doing me a favor. To this day he still jokes with me about it when I see him and always gave outstanding reviews even though he fired me. They weren't exactly thrilled about me being pregnant. The woman who came to work after me also was pregnant though they didn't know it when they hired her (big joke on my boss) but once she told them she didn't take the many hints they give to quit so she was fired, then rehired (since it was getting a bit obvious of their opinion on pregnancy) and well that saga is still playing out. ladyfingers on "S/O Have you ever been fired? I've quit plenty of jobs, though. I never quit unless I had a job offer elsewhere. I had one job in high school I quit early (I was going to college in a couple of months but I couldn't stand it anymore) and four in college -- 1 work study, 3 regular part-time jobs. Then I've had 4 jobs since graduating college 10 years ago. My first one out of college I loved but it was entry level so it was expected I'd find something new. It paid really great, but I never felt safe at work (it was my job to apprehend shoplifting suspects, and I worked in a not-so-nice part of town). Plus, it had nothing to do with my degree (which is in accounting). I ALMOST quit at one of my college internships. I worked for a regional public accounting firm. I hated every minute of it. The people I worked with encouraged what I viewed as unhealthy competition. For any accountants out there, you know that busy season is just that - busy. But there were contests of who could bill out the most hours. I swear, some of the people at the firm must have never went home and just slept in their cubicles/offices...lol. I stuck it out though just to get my credit, since it was temporary (10 week internship). But, I did cry everyday in the bathroom. lol. annie624 on "S/O Have you ever been fired? I had this crazy boss who would do things like call me in the morning on her way to the office and ask if I had finished a project...that she had never ask me to do! And when I would say I hadn't, she would tell me that I was fired and that I shouldn't be there when she got into the office. The first time it happened, I hung up crying and then another employee was like, "It happens all the time, she'll be fine when she gets in." It was true. I've only quit one "career" job. It was what I thought would be my dream job - a social worker at a pediatric hospital that specializes in spinal cord injuries. I don't know why but I thought it was more common... although I hope it isn't! I started off as the Spa Manager and got promoted 3 months later to Front Desk Manager. I am in my first "career" job and have been for a bit over a year. The other jobs I had quite were part time type of jobs or summer jobs when I was going back to school. When I was 16 I worked at a clothing store in a mall. I was supposed to start one day at 2pm. I was at the mall with my Grandma shopping for my birthday that day, and they called at noon and said "can you come in early?" I said, sorry but I can't today.. I will be there at 2. My boss then called and said "you know what, if you can't get here early, don't bother coming at all. Come back in next week and tell me if you still want this job!" I quit the next week. So i am not sure if that is being fired or quitting.. BUT up until that point I had awesome reviews and worked my butt off there, so I don't count it as being fired.
