I've put on.... wait for it... 15 lbs. It's totally depressing. I have back fat and am so jiggly. I attribute it to:
1) too sick to exercise (at all. I tried lifting arm weights for like 5 minutes and that was enough to trigger it)
2) the only thing that keeps the sickness at bay is eating carbs or fast food. so I eat a lot of them.
3) I'm hungry constantly and the above are the only things I can tolerate.

Hoping i stop feeling so sick so I can control my eating better. I was not overweight or underweight before, but now (week 14) I don't feel pregnant, i just feel fat and sick.

I gained about 5 lbs in first tri in both pregnancies. I believe that if you have a low BMI you probably will gain more weight but I don't know if it necessarily comes in the beginning?

I put 10 pounds on by week 10. Haven't put a pound on since, and it's been a month. I was frequently hungry but exercising and eating right. What can you do? One of my girlfriends also had this experience and only put on 33 lbs total so it evens out. You take care of yourself-you eat healthy and work out. It's not the same as binging on junk :) you'll be fine, promise!

Out of all my friends, only one stayed the same or lost weight and she was SUPER sick. Everyone else? 10 pound club. If I put on 10 lbs otherwise, it goes to my face, my arms, but butt. These 10 pounds aren't like that. It's weird

I'm a couple days over 13 weeks right now. I lost two and gained one of those back, so I'm guessing I'll be -1 for my first tri stats. I'm trying to be fairly conscientious of my weight gain since I'm starting heavier than I should be (hello, year of newlywed weight that never got worked off!). My doctor keeps telling me not to worry about not gaining any weight because the baby will take what it needs, and I think the same thing would be true in reverse. If you're starting out slimmer, your body may just know it needs to add a little more a little more quickly. I must, however, agree with PPs on bloating. It's terrible, and I definitely started wearing maternity pants and bella band very early even though I had lost weight; it was just sooo much more comfortable.

@mountainmama: That is helpful, thank you! I'm not even *thinking* about my wedding weight from June 2011 (around 8 lbs below where I am now, which was likely too low) so totally counting my starting weight here, even though I gained 2-3 of those lbs in the last month for no reason. And thanks! I'm still pretty excited too, he he.

@JoJoGirl: I'm only at 11 weeks, but wanted to answer because this has been driving me nuts! I already have gained about 9 pounds.

I freaked out about it for awhile, but I'm feeling better now.
I think its for a few reasons:
1. I got married in June, and was at my smallest size since high school (about 125 pounds). We had our honeymoon, and I went in to the doctor shortly after that. So some of the weight (probably about 5 pounds) is just from me bouncing back to my "happy weight" where I usually am. I'm counting my starting weight for pregnancy as 132, because thats what it was at my doctors visit prior to conception.

2. I'm super constipated. I have had this problem on and off prior to pregnancy, and its only gotten worse. I'll just leave it at that.

3. My body is just going to gain the way it needs to. I was also super hungry during the first few weeks, and while I made healthy choices, I was definitely eating a LOT more than usual. We have increased our meat consumption slightly, to add more protein (we were mostly vegetarian meals before), and I'm also trying to drink milk, which I wasn't before.

If you are still exercising, and eating a reasonably healthy diet, don't worry! I think we'll be okay!

p.s. I'm so excited for you! Still!

I gained about 5, but I am blaming 2 of that on vacation. Since I couldn't diet like normal to lose that weight.

I would bet money you are just bloating. It is awful during the 1st trimester. Word of advice don't be shy about the belly band or maternity pants to help with it. It will make you feel 100% better.

I gained 5 lbs. Strangely though, I gained 4 lbs between weeks 4 and 8 and only 1lb between weeks 8 and 12. I blame this on the terrible food I was eating earlier in the first tri in an effort to stave off m/s. Oh, and also the constant, gnawing hunger that I experienced.

@hilsy85: I keep a stash of protein bars around for when I can't reach for any 'real food', it's just amazing how quickly it all adds up. :)

@Adira: Hmm, maybe I SHOULD weigh myself! I'm not feeling overly obsessed about it, I just can't imagine keeping up this pace for the next 34 weeks in terms of food and not gaining 70+ lbs. :) I have a relatively high metabolism to start so being pregnant is likely just kicking my body into overdrive.

@JoJoGirl: Gross yes, as in by the end of my pregnancy I was only up 4lbs from where I started. But adding in what I lost in the beginning and had to make up it was probably somewhere between 15-20. I got back up to my pre-preg weight somewhere around 32 weeks, and then put on 4 lbs after that.

@JoJoGirl: You're probably bloated. I noticed the bloating around 6 weeks - it's AWFUL and only gets worse! I gained 3 lbs in the first trimester, but around 6 weeks, I noticed my pants felt tight, and by 10, I could barely get them buttoned! I think between 10-12 weeks is when I had to get a Belly Band because I couldn't button my pants anymore, and I had only gained 3 lbs total.

@JoJoGirl: hah yeah I only weigh myself at the doctor's office...I didn't want to start obsessing! I had periods also where I felt like I was constantly eating, and I just tried to make sure a) I wasn't just eating because I was bored or actually thirsty (so make sure you up your fluid intake too!) and b) that at least the majority of my snacks were fruits, veggies, yogurt, or other high protein things, which I found kept me fuller longer. Like I said, it really all evens out in the end--your body will gain what it needs to gain, and it sounds like you're doing great with continuing to work out!
