My mom was strict and she had a short temper - probably not helped by the fact that she was raising the 3 of us on her own and (as an adult I can see) under a considerable amount of stress.</p> <p>While I am lucky to not be in her position, I will discipline LO in a similar way. I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'm "pro" spanking, but I'm not ruling it out. It's obviously something I would reserve for an extreme situation, though.</p> <p>An aside: my brother got spanked by a nun in second grade and then the nun called my mom to apologize! My mom was like, "Oh, I'm sure he deserved it." It was with their hand and I barely felt it. I remember being grounded two or three times. She is super southern so I would get spanked with her hand, hangers, wooden spoons...you name it. We even had to go outside and pick our own "switch" off the tree. My dad never did any of that and rarely raised his voice. But when he did, it would mean that I was in BIG trouble. </p> <p>When I got older (high school), she would give me the cold shoulder and just ignore me for weeks. That was actually more painful because it lasted longer! I had to somehow be EXTRA good to weasel my way into her good graces again. </p>
