Sounds like your LO is adjusting to food. My DS was pooping 10-20 times a day around 12 months. He had a really sore bottom from the constant poop/cleanup cycle. His poop was not hard, it was always a smear. The cause was constipation and miralax helped clear him out and reduce the frequency. He still goes 3 times a day at age 2.

My little guy pooped became a more consistent every day pooper when we started solids ( purées) around 4-5 months. His daily, sometimes twice a day pooping didn't change when he started table foods at 9-10 months. The consistency was firmer, which is great IMO.

My son was a big pooper around this time. Six times a day was the norm but sometimes up to 10! 10 times! Everything was normal though and nothing was every bloody or watery and he was growing so I just took it as normal. He's a little over two now and it's settled down into 2-3 times a day (thank goodness).

Ds1 has always been a pooper. Ds2 just started in the last month pooping more frequently (he's 10.5 months) and it's such a big change! Diaper rash was a breast constant problem with ds1...

My son definitely started pooping more when he ate more solids. I think their digestive systems just aren't very efficient that early on! It eventually settled down around 18 to 22 months as he was able to absorb more of the food I think.

My second still goes a ton at 2.5. For a long time I could tell *exactly* what he had eaten so it wasn't like he was even digesting it. And his sister who eats the same food is lucky to go once a day so I do think it's just their individual systems. I do think their systems get better at it but probably will always go a lot would be my guess.

@thepicklemonster: this is good to know - thanks! I'm giving her some probiotics we've used before to see if it regulates the situation at all, but beyond that, I'm not sure what to do (other than watch for good diaper sales, haha). Her poor bum, though! I feel bad about that - she already hated being changed; this is not helping things!

My DS has this issue but I've asked around a lot and it doesn't seem very common! He is 10 months old now and since around 7 months (which coincides with more and more solids), he's been pooping a bajillion times a day. It's not diarrhea; in fact, most of the poops are actually solid/hard, but it's just very frequent. We took him to the pediatrician and she said some kids just poop a lot. She also said since he's growing well and the consistency of the poops is normal, it's nothing to worry about. I'm following and curious to see what others say.

DD is 9 months old, and has been on solids for about three months. In the last six weeks, she's been getting really excited about food and is now eating three "meals" each day, consisting mainly of purées and yogurt, but also small nibbles of what we are eating when appropriate. The problem? Over the last week or two, she has started pooping excessively. Every time she has food or breastmilk, she has a poopy diaper shortly after. We are getting a whole rainbow of colors and consistencies (ew, I know, sorry!) which makes me think it's not a tummy bug. She didn't show any signs of food intolerances previously, and teething could definitely be a factor. She's getting a pretty bad diaper rash, even though I change her quickly each time.

Anyone else's LO go from 1-3 poops a day to upwards of 6?! 8?! I don't even know?! I suspect she was eating a lot more than usual with her grandparents last week when this started (I was traveling), but I have had her back with me since Friday, and the poop thing is ongoing. Just trying to gauge if this is normal or if a trip to her doctor seems to be in order. I don't remember my other kids pooping this much, but feel like some if my friends' kids may have gone through stages like this and they were just temporary...?!
