@coacheswife123: Mine isn't too loud, but loud enough that people will definitely know what I am doing.

@coacheswife123: I am in the same situation, but with no conference room. Our business is literally a huge open space with a bathroom and a boiler room. Everything else is completely visible. My manager suggested that we put up a curtained area or something for me for after Leave, but even that would mean everybody could hear my pump. Most of my coworkers are women, but we do have some teen boys who work there too. UGH! And, no HR person, just my 50 year old male boss. :0) Should be an interesting conversation.

Ditto to what everyone said about asking your employer to at least set aside small room, closet, whatever is availalbe. The best one of my employers could do was curtain off the vestibule attached to the restroom. It was horrible but at least it wasn't a stall. They were able to get away with this since there were other buildings on campus that I could have walked to with mothers rooms and a locked door.

My office put a chair in a kitchenette area that worked well.

@krsmall: that's not really a solution. You will feed baby before and after work so at that point there is almost no need to pump. It is crucial to have sessions through the day.

I have my own office but a coworker does not, they converted a small closet into a pumping room for her. I agree with other posters who have said you should ask your work to accomodate you!

Ditto to what PPs said. I don't think it matters if your office is split between 2 bldgs., it's the total # of employees for the company.

Ask your HR person/department about an unused office or a conference room that you can schedule times for.

I don't have an office either.

This isn't ideal but you could pump before and after work. It means you will be engorged at work but you can get your pumping sessions at home.

@sloaneandpuffy: I thought about my car but that just seems like a hassle

@highwire: There is a small conference room - I need to check and see if the door locks. that might would work. I'm also going to research those laws a bit!

@coacheswife123: Yes, I'd definitely encourage you to look into this and perhaps talk to your HR. Here's a link on the US Dept of Labor site that might be useful to you: http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs73.htm#.UJvxIhxxya0

Like @MungBean: said, they have to provide a place for you to pump, although if you work for a small company, they don't have to abide by those laws.

Is there a small conference room you can use? Or an unused office?

@MungBean: Interesting. I need to look into this. Our office has about 100 people - but that is split between two buildings. I would guess our office probably houses 40 of our 100 employees.

Hmm, how big is your office? FMLA requires (for offices with over 50 employees, I believe) an employer to provide a private area for nursing mothers to pump, other than a restroom.

Have any of you been in this situation and if so, what was your solution.

I am planning on breastfeeding. After my 3 months maternity leave I'll be back at work and would like to pump. The problem is, I work in a suite and do not have my own office. We also don't have a mother's room or pumping room at my office. The only option that leaves is the bathroom but I wouldn't want to pump in there because 1. that seems kind of gross to me and 2. it is a single stall bathroom, meaning I would tie it up for everyone else.

I have no idea what to do or where I will be able to pump once I return to work. Any advice?
