I just find it fascinating. I think that we all ought to try to be aware of the assumptions we bring to the table in this discussion and open to the possibility of some of them being wrong (as assumptions about what others believe or mean can be). That includes all of them, from "the way I believe is the only right way for a Christian to believe" to "not supporting means shunning/disowning/not loving your child." It's such a contentious issue in today's society that we all bring baggage to it. </p> <p>@mrs. bird: It's a long thread, so please forgive me if I missed it, but did anyone here say they would try to stop any type of marriage from happening, or that gay marriage ought to be illegal? For instance he was friends with prostitutes and tax collectors, they were considered the lowest of the low at that time, and after meeting Jesus they were changed. they didn't continue being a prostitute or whatever else. He defended an adulterer ( Mary magdalene) from being stoned to death but he didn't say" hi five go back and do it again", he said go and sin no more.
