At the derm today I got the all clear to start! she'll be calling me later this week when she has my lab work in hand but i get labs every three months and i've never had anything but good results. My mom came with me to the appt since she works in the city and while she didnt come into the office with me she asked about the appointment and my meds and i told her our plans! Doc thinks its also a good idea to take a month off the pill while still using back up. looks like i'll be POAS in Oct!

@Ali: Thanks so much! I certainly understand what your husband is going through. It took almost 2 years and trying different cocktails of meds to find a combo that worked for me and see results. It helped to have a really great doctor and nursing staff and insurance that covered a variety of treatments. I had really good luck with Humira and Methotrexate. Since i've been off the MXT for the last 4 months i've found that i have some patches but theyre mostly contained and not nearly as bad as before i went on it.

We'll only be TTC until at the latest Feb at that point if my skin is a mess again we may have to take a break go back on meds and wait for warmer weather when my skins is happier.

Hmm, I'm on my first month off BCP and we're going for it straight away - but I do wish I'd come off BCP sooner.... it's so frustrating not knowing what's going on with my cycle!! If I were you, I'd come off the BCP now and use another method of contraception for the last month - while you're still taking your humira - then, after the wedding, go for it!! :-)

I totally feel you on the medication front because my husband has psoriasis (barely controlled by topical medication)mand has recently been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. He desperately needs some serious medication - a cocktail of a similar drug to humira and an immuno-suppressant, both of which can cause birth defects. We've decided to conceive before he starts the meds so we don't have to worry about "coming off it" for a few years - and it's agonising watching him suffer, knowing he could opt for the medication at any time and get his life back......

Anyway, just to say, huge congratulations on the beginning of your TTC journey. Lots and lots of baby dust to you!

Thanks!

That was what i was leaning toward. I'm kinda type A and loved that i knew almost to the hour when my period was coming when i was on the pill. now there will be so many unknowns.

I've heard a lot of stories of people who go off the pill and then IMMEDIATELY get pregnant (a couple of my friends got this lucky), and even my doctor said I should go off the pill and then try immediately with that first cycle. So I'd suggest starting a new pack for September and then going cold turkey and getting busy!

I would recommend finishing on Friday and giving yourself a month, while using another (reliable) method. The only reason I say this is my first couple of months off BC my body was nuts and I couldn't really rely on temping or checking cervical fluid as a marker for when I was ovulating. But if you're OK with maybe not getting pregnant right away in October, then you should be fine waiting until 9/27. Just keep in mind that your body's signals may be a little out of whack after going off the pill.

Anyway, congratulations!

So all the ducks are in a row... I came off my meds in April. Three months later i've been to the dentist and I've scheduled a crown after having a temporary in place for (i'm a little ashamed) the last 10 years. I did the preconception appt and i'm going tomorrow to get final clearance from my Dermatologist. Hubs and i turned 28 in August and our 2nd anniversary is tomorrow! Our puppy finally matured into a dog and construction on our addition is almost done. I even had a confidential conversation with our HR manager about how our med plan and short term disability works.

I'm so excited, nervous, scared, yet i feel oddly prepared to make this step forward.

Here's where I'm unsure.... i've been on the pill since i was 17 - never taking a break. I have no way of predicting what my body will do when i stop taking it. Our "plan" is to officially start TTC in Oct after my BF's wedding. however, my derm wants me to stop taking humira when i relieve the goalie. Once i stop taking the humira my skin can become very irritated.

I'm done with my current pack on Friday. Do i start one more pack starting on 9/6 and finish on the 27th and no looking back TTC? or do i finish off friday and use different "barriers" and let myself have a month to get back on track and still stay on the humira? I realize this probably also a question for my Dermatologist but i'd also like some anecdotal opinions.
