You're not behind!! Don't worry about it. I found the first trimester to be the most difficult by far. It usually subsides as you head into the second, hope you're feeling better soon!

oh man, i've been through it twice (20 weeks with #2 right now!) and it's NO JOKE!!! for me it lasts between weeks 8-16 and then magically goes away after that. in retrospect i guess it is not tooooo long, but during those weeks it's pretty terrible and our household pretty much screeches to a halt!

i think the worst part for me is around weeks 13&14 i've kinda forgotton what it's like to feel normal and i begin to feel guilty about all the things you noted, because i feel like i should be able to do them. when the fatigue and nausea are finally over i look back and tell myself that i shouldn't have felt bad at all and just give myself a break.

also, there is sooooooo much time after to read about pregnancy and childbirth and newborns! don't worry about it at all! i hope it ends soon for you! :) congrats!

Don't fret! I have never slept as much as I did in the first trimester. My energy finally came back over the first few weeks of the second trimester. Since I got my energy back I now have more drive and desire to do more than the absolute bare minimum. Hang in there!

Girl, you are GROWING A HUMAN!!! Go take a nap!

And no, you're not alone. It will likely get better, but I think the "energy burst" of the 2nd tri is mostly just in comparison to how miserable the 1st tri was. I'm 18 weeks and I still nap every day. :)

You're not alone! I spent most of my free-time during the first trimester on the couch. At almost 17 weeks, I'm still waiting for the promised burst of energy, and I feel it coming on slowly but surely.

I'm exactly as far along as you are and I have been exhausted too. I had to leave work early yesterday and I went home and crashed on the couch and slept for an hour before DH got home. I had forewarned him that I was in no shape to cook dinner, so he brought me Panera :).

I was googling solutions last night and the suggestions were to drink more water, eat healthy snacks and get more sleep. I made a concerted effort to drink more water today and I feel so much better than yesterday. I ate a huge chipotle burrito for lunch, so I haven't really felt like snacking this afternoon, lol.

I was the same way in the first trimester-- I just couldn't do anything, and it sounds like my hours at work were easier than yours. I was just so tired all the time. Normally I love cooking, but I couldn't even force myself to stop at the grocery store that I passed directly on my way home, much less prepare something. We had so much takeout those months, then I felt bad because it was more expensive and less healthy. But, it passed. Not at 12 weeks, which I'd been holding out for, but somewhere between 14 and 16 I started feeling normal again and have since. I still get tired more quickly and am very tired at the end of the day, but it's not like that fatigue where you just collapse at the couch at the end of the day.

Only a few more weeks like this then you will feel better!

pregnancy fatigue is no joke! Don't worry you're not on top of your A game. The second trimester will be here soon and the fatigue will take it easier on you. You can play catch up later!

Being said that, I'm normally a researcher also, but for some reason, pregnancy has made me a pretty laid back person! Plus, all the recommendations from all the bees on the hive are super helpful in decision making when it comes to baby gear. I'm currently 25 weeks and our office (which will be the nursery) is still a fully intact office and we haven't even started our registry yet. And somehow, I'm okay with that! Ha!

@yin: Thank you! I'm going to try and enjoy my rest and hopefully feeling less guilty will help me rest well.

I like to cook more than take out, but my dilemma is I never know what I want to eat and by the time I determine what I want to eat it's always too late to cook. Although the smell while cooking doesn't bother me, it's the residual odor is what make me gag like no tomorrow. *sigh*

Doing take out is getting a little hard on the budget when our aim is to definitely save. I really can't wait to get this appetite back so I can plan weekly menus again!

Thanks @YIN!

First of all, congrats on your pregnancy! I'm 11 weeks along with my second, and I'm so tired. Little gets done around the house, and I give in to take out just so that I don't have to cook (the smells get to me so easily). This is all normal. Just try to take it one step at a time and try not to be overwhelmed.

You still have plenty of time to learn more about your pregnancy and labor. Honestly, I find it more useful to learn more about taking care of a newborn because those first couple of months will be so challenging.

From what I remember with my last pregnancy, I started regaining energy in my 2nd trimester. Best of luck to you. For now, enjoy your rest.

@mrs. wagon: Your post made me laugh (while I'm at work right now). I'm not a napper too and I haven't had the chance to JUST nap. Oh wait, maybe once and it was a 3-hour nap (or sleep!). I guess this whole pregnancy thing really has yet to sink in. I am not showing so it's not like people can see but I'm barely fitting my pants! But thanks for the input. This certainly made me feel better :D

@Bookworm: There's a lot of people I hear that pre-plan their pregnancies and who knows how much planning they actually did for the actual pregnancy. But I feel that there's no amount of planning can really get you ready for a baby. You pretty much learn as you go along.

I was SO tired I would literally fall asleep on the couch EVERY SINGLE AFTERNOON. And I am not a napper... and if I nap it has to be in my bed with the shades drawn and completely silent. In the first trimester I'd just pass out randomly, draped over the couch arm and snoring like a bear, every single day, TV blaring and remote in hand. Seriously. Just rest and embrace the laziness... your body is expending SO much energy preparing itself to grow this baby inside of you!! Your energy will pick back up soon, and you will definitely notice the difference. Once you are almost ready to deliver you will probably start nesting and that will make up for all the laziness you are experiencing now. I was on my hands and knees, scrubbing my kitchen floor with a wet paper towel.

Nope, you aren't alone! I rarely left the couch the entire first trimester, and didn't get an energy spike until like 18 weeks or so? Do NOT feel guilty about doing nothing! You really have plenty of time to plan, research, and figure things out. I'm 28 weeks and even though my nursery is almost done, I still don't feel prepared on birth plans, etc.

Having zero energy is totally ok, and if your body is telling you to rest, REST! I worked full time as well as taking grad school classes online, and I would just go straight to the couch when I got home. I definitely felt overwhelmed for quite a while, and had a really hard time, but it has gotten less overwhelming and more exciting as time as gone on, even though I'm still uncomfortable as heck lol!

*hugs* and good luck, you can do it!!!

I am on my 10th week of pregnancy (9w3d) and I have never felt so tired in my entire life! Not only am I so tired, I feel oh so lazy to do anything. I'm starting to feel guilty because I haven't been reading more about my pregnancy or researching birth plans, birth classes, etc. and I'm usually the type to research everything and I read endless reviews of products and such. I haven't even thought of how and what to do what our second bedroom which would be the nursery. Having no additional storage space at home other than whatever cabinets or closets we have, the second bedroom is currently the catch all room. I feel bad because I feel that I should be doing more than what I'm doing at this point in my pregnancy.

I work full time, sometimes more than full time, as an IT Auditor and IT Support. These up coming months are going to be the craziest and busiest time. I'm not sure if the lack of pregnancy planning is stemming from the fact that I've been preoccupied with things at work and how I can possibly keep up with everything I have to do in the next couple of months. It doesn't help that I am still at the stage where I have no idea what to eat most of the time, my meat aversion since the start of this pregnancy has limited my diet to only so much and most of which just makes me gag at the sight of it.

Maybe I'm just overwhelmed?

I can't wait to get my appetite and energy back :(

Did anyone else have the same experience during the beginning of their pregnancy? I hope I'm not alone :-\
