@TurtleDoves: we only do bottles at daycare and I nurse at home before bed. It's a good point about formula spoiling though...

I'm all for supplementing if needed....but if it were me I wouldn't mix the formula with the BM....my reasoning is: formula spoils much more quickly than BM....So, if it did, you'd have to dump the entire bottle and waste your BM. So, i'd keep the BM and formula separate,
Say you had enough for the day....except you didn't have enough for his last feed:
Then i'd do BM all day and do his last feed as entirely formula. It might help your LO sleep better too, since formula digests at a slower rate than BM, so you'd get a little longer to sleep;)

We started doing this at 4 months...he would get anywhere from 2oz to 6oz of formula in a bottle mixed with whatever milk I had pumped from the day before. Usually for his last bottle of the day, he gets a full bottle of just formula. He's never noticed a difference.

For an example mixed bottle - I make a 4oz bottle of formula, then I add about 3oz of pumped milk. Everything is cold at this point, so it's warmed up together when he's ready to eat.

We've done reverse cycling when P's daily intake is "short". I have another friend that has done this as well b/c her baby refused to take a bottle during the day for all but a few ounces.

I also know lots of moms that supplement with formula but it's not for us.

I did that from the beginning. I couldn't keep up w/ her cluster feedings so we always gave her a bottle of formula at bedtime. When I started to wean from breastfeeding, I would send her to daycare with one bottle of formula and the rest breastmilk. I would continue to drop a bottle about every 2 weeks.

I didn't want to bother with mixing formula in breastmilk because I knew I would forget to get the water for the formula cold before adding the breastmilk.

I do this everyday. I add 1oz or 2 oz of formula to her bottle of breastmilk. Each bottle contains a totaly of 6oz. She doesnt seem to mind. But if its a bottleof 100% formula she notices the difference and wont drink it

I have considered supplementing some with formula since I'm not pumping enough for M's daily bottles at daycare. I'm considering just making a bottle of formula and then mixing it with the breastmilk in each bottle - about an ounce or two in each bottle.

Have you done this? Does your baby notice the difference?
