If permission is given then obviously it's OK.
Personally my husband and I have NOT signed the Facebook release forms for daycare because they have a public Facebook page.

I have Facebook and instagram and share pictures of my LO on there. But my profiles are all private and I'm only friends with family and friends I know and trust.

Thank you ladies for all of your amazing responses! It also made me think about what happens to the media once you withdraw your child from any program and will they keep using it? So many different factors!

If permission... However my daycare gave me the form and I declined. I guess I just like being in control of his pictures.

Also absolutely not. The only place we share LO's photos are on our private Instagram accounts, and I'm even thinking of stopping that. We don't want her to have an online presence before she can determine whether or not she wants one. Also, I don't like the idea of people knowing where DD is during the day...

DD's daycare can use photos of her on their internal blog (an admin has to send you an invite to be able to view it) but not on any public site. I don't post pics of her on my own (rarely used) social media pages and I certainly don't want others doing it.

I voted absolutely not as in, absolutely i do not want his picture used in any social media account. We have a strict policy.

@Adira: Oh definitely! We'd scan the permission forms right into the CRM but I don't know if it's even worth proposing to our church parents.

@MaryM: I just want to get general thoughts on how parents feel about their schools/daycares/and churches using photos of their LOs. The church conversation is long and way too complicated for HB lol

I'm not sure what exactly you're asking...if your church should use instagram or not, or if they're definitely doing it, but you're not sure if they need to ask parents for permission?

If it's the latter, Anytime you use photos of people taking in private places (not on the street or in a public park) you MUST ask for permission

I would think especially for a church, which seems like such a "safe" place for people. But I wouldn't let a few private people hold you back if you think the majority would be in favor of it.

I don't care about church posting her picture. My church had us sign a permission form when submitting our info for the nursery. I think having a group instagram is a good idea, but I would definitely do permission forms.

I would also prefer they didn't. My issue isn't that you can see my child's face, but that someone can figure out where my child is regularly at during a specific time.

I think as long as you ask for and get permission, it's fine. You would just have to be really careful about keeping track of who you have permission to use their photos and who you don't!

Our daycare will posts pictures of Xander and the other kids on their FB page, but I gave permission for them to do so.

I run social media accounts for an early childhood education center and also my church. The early childhood education center makes parents sign a social media/marketing release for photos but we haven't put any faces of the children on Facebook or the website. There are shots with the children's back of head or hands/feet but no faces.

Right now, our church has just developed a new children's program (think Sunday school) targeted for newborns through age 11. One teacher has suggested that we use Instagram with a hashtag to help build buzz which is great but I know we have a few parents in our program who are anti-social media in general. I'm afraid it's more trouble to bring it up than it's probably worth.

I wanted to see what your thoughts were. Do you mind if your churches/schools/daycares use pictures of your LO with permission or would your prefer they didn't?

I have no bias yet but it's been on my mind during this pregnancy what we'll want for our LO.
