I went in person, there was no line, it took 5 min and I got the card within a week.
I was born outside the US, the card was issued in Maryland, and the duplicate was done in Florida.

But if he was born in Texas can he still go to the Utah social security office?

I lost DS's card...I need to get him a new one. It was super easy getting a new one when I remarried, and going to the SS office instead of mailing it in is def the way to go. I get nervous mailing stuff that important.

I've always just gone to our local SS office for anything. There has never been a wait and they have always been super helpful in person. Then you don't have to mail sensitive info and they will take care of all the details right then.

I think a copy was ok? Not sure though, it was a long time ago! Best to dig for that on the ssa website :)

I had to go to a SS office to change mine when we got married. They sent a new one in the mail. It was pretty painless, with the exception of traveling three hours to get to the nearest SS office.

It's a really simple process....I had to do it years ago. You just need proof of citizenship (passport, etc), and fill out a simple form. I think you can just mail it in, but I'm not sure.

Has anyone ever had to replace their card? Ugh! Do you send the documents to your state or the state you were born? How long does it usually take to get a card back. Just discovered my husbands card is missing :(
