You can find some fabrics that are easier to clean. We bought some modern-looking microfiber couches and we LOVE it. Easy to clean and stays relatively cool in the summers. The dog isn't allowed on the couch but he totally goes on it when we aren't home and it's no big deal, and like others said, it's easy to wipe up spills. I feel like it holds its shape better than most fabric ones.
