I love the ergo and used that with my first, but this time around (after getting exposed to woven wraps) I got a LennyLamb ergonomic carrier and LOVE IT! It's made from woven fabric and is so so comfy. We got the baby-size which is equivalent to a standard baby carrier and it fits our 6 month old great! We didn't need to use a infant cushion or a rolled blanket even though we started wearing her in it at 3 months - I just use a ribbon to cinch the body narrower and DD2 can have her knees bent in the proper position. They are having a 15% discount now and even with shipping from Poland, it comes to around $120 USD (they bill in PLN but conversion rates are low now).

ETA: I also have a Tula and find myself reaching for the LL carrier more now. The woven wrap material is much softer than the canvas Tula and it's very big on my DD. I will probably reach more for the Tula when DD gets bigger and use both, but the wrap conversion LL for that price point is pretty awesome.

This is what we have - http://en.lennylamb.com/products/show/1364_ergonomic-carrier-baby-size-diamond-weave-100-cotton---wrap-conversion-from-norwegian-diamond
But this one is super cute and offering free shipping now (!) - http://en.lennylamb.com/products/show/2276_ergonomic-carrier-baby-size-jacquard-weave-60-cotton-40-bamboo---wrap-conversion-from-arabica-lace

I agree with @wonderstruck: about the Pikkolo from Catbirdbaby. We have an ergo, too, but I find that, since I'm only 5'1", it's too long for my torso and fits awkwardly.

Another vote for the Baby Bjorn. I haven't tried many others, but I love how easy it is to use and how secure E (11 weeks now) feels in it. It is also very adjustable, which is important for me because I'm pretty short.

I have a tula and an Olives and Applesauce. I really like them both, they're quite similar, but the O/A has a few more options on how to wear it.
Like someone else mentioned, even if you buy a used Tula you'd basically be buying it for retail as they hold their value.
It really is best to try them on and see what you like and find most comfortable. You could probably find a local babywearing group where you can try lots on :)

I have a Beco Soleil, but I kind of wish I'd gotten a Tula instead. They're pretty similar but Tula has better resale value. There's also more accessories (like suck pads, extenders to make it closer to toddler size, etc. But it is a really personal thing, if you can test any of them out before committing, that would be ideal :).

Not quite as well known, but the only SSC that worked for L was the Pikkolo. It's very adjustable so that it works for smaller babies without any sort of insert. I think either Boba or Beco also makes one like that, but the Pikkolo has an extra feature where it cinches inwards and made the leg positioning more comfy for him while still staying in the proper position.

Since you have time, I recommend checking to see if you can find a local babywearing group - they often have lending libraries so you can try a bunch out and see what works best for you and your LO!

If you can afford it, get the Tula! I've used my Ergo for 2 years and I love it, but I just borrowed and Tula and it's much more comfortable for back wearing since the straps adjust more. It's also a little larger in general so will last longer.

I find it to be a bit like clothing. SSCs, unlike wraps, have certain elements that aren't infinitely adjustable--think straps, waist belts, height, width, etc. Some will work better for certain babies and adults. All of the brands you are considering are well-made, hold value pretty well, and can be very comfortable. Since all of those brands are fairly common, I would try to find a store in my area that carries one or more of the specific styles you are interested in. This should help you determine what might work best for you and your child. If that isn't an option, you might consider joining a facebook group or somewhere with many SSC users that you could ask for opinions. If you are 5'6" and average weight, hearing from people with a similar build might be useful. Same for your child's build.

I love having my Ergo! It makes things so much easier. I mainly wear her to walk the dog. I bought mine secondhand and it's held up wonderfully. Now that she's bigger, I'm thinking about getting a toddler-size carrier, but I have a ways to go before I would actually need it (at 15 months, she's 28 7/8" tall).

I have a Beco gemini and love it. I started using it when c was about 4 months or so. It's very comfortable and I like that I can occasionally face her forward, though I almost never do because it's not as comfortable for either of us (and isn't as good for her hips). I've done a back carry too, now that she's bigger, still love it. Very easy to put on.

However if you are only using it for travel it's sort of bulky. I think the boba air looks really interesting and much lighter and less bulky. (
http://www.boba.com/boba-air#Black )

But both of those are probably harder to find used. Ergo is so popular I bet there are more used ones out there.

I have a 4 month old and am looking for a SCC for traveling. We are going on our first flight in March and I'd like something easier! We have the infantino mei tai and LOVE it, but I really don't want to mess with wrapping straps while wrangling a baby, diaper bag, carry-on, and car seat through four airports.

I know a lot of people love the Ergo - but I also hear great things about Beco, Boba and Tula... I'm pretty clueless when it comes to babywearing. I'm looking for something comfortable and easy. And I'm hoping to buy second hand since I have some time to look for a good deal. What is your favorite SCC and why?
