On top of everything everyone has mentioned, my 10mo loves waffles. I buy the wheat toaster waffles and cut them into fingers. Sometimes I dip them into yogurt before i give them to her.

This thread has some good ideas, thanks for posting. 2 weeks ago LO decided that she no longer wants to be fed purees at all - everything must be done by herself. Coming up with what to give her has been a bit of a challenge, but fun.

My LO is 9.5 months and we are starting to feed her more finger foods. She loves cut up fruit like banana, blueberries, soft pears and apricots. I mix quinoa and mini baby pasta into sweet potato or squash purées. I also have a baby blender food book and this week made some yummy dinners that I froze in cubes. I used a meat grinde attachment on my kitchen aid so it wasn't super smooth. We made:
- cranberry, chicken and butternut squash mix
- ham, broccoli, cheese and pasta mix
- red pepper, carrot and squash mix

For breakfast we have cereal still and yoghurt mixed with fruit. She likes scrambled eggs and toast with peanut butter too. It's even a lot of fun feeding real food!

@Arden: I can get it at my local grocery store (shop rite). It's the So Delicious brand. You can get it in flavors or a bigger container in plain. I get the flavors for me and the plain for LO (flavors have more sugar).

We started with purees, too-we used a lot that you listed, also applesauce and canned pumpkin. We started with softer solids or things that fell apart more in his mouth like sweet potato or squash cut into small cubes, meat from the slow cooker, soups, green beans, broccoli tops. Now he eats pretty much what we do as long as I cut it up small enough.

My LO loves avocado! I cut it into fingers and she devours it! She also loves orange segments (I carefully remove the pith and the segment skin)

When you get more comfortable with blw, make sweet potato pancakes (from wholesome baby food website). I made them yesterday and they are so good! I may have stolen some...

A lot of summer fruits are soft enough for them to gum very easily- c loves watermelon, strawberries (cut into small pieces) and blueberries (halved). She also really likes the frozen mixed vegetables, like peas carrots and green beans. She would shovel them in before she really got the pincer grasp. Pancakes are nice and soft ad easy to pick up. And tortellini are her new favorite- she has an easier time picking them up if I cut them in half.

You can try curried lentils (just for flavor, not spicy), coconut yogurt, scrambled or over medium eggs fried in butter, meats of all kinds (my lo really, really loves ground turkey sausage), pot roast or brisket is really soft for babies to try beef, salmon is very easy for babies to mush with gums. You can also sauté spinach.

You can make oatmeal-peanut butter balls.

My 10.5 month old's favorite meal is elbow macaroni pasta with butternut squash-tomato sauce (I puree butternut squash and just mix it in with a low sodium organic jarred sauce I get at the supermarket) and ground turkey sausage.

Oh, and halved frozen blueberries. It was her first "whole" food that she ate tons and tons of. Frozen blueberries have the same texture as baby puffs--they just dissolve in the mouth. Easier than fresh blueberries for some reason.

We are in a rut. I have been busy with school and end of the year stuff, but now it's summer and I want to give lo different food and a wider variety. We (the parents) tend to stick with what is familiar so I want to avoid that with her.

She's had carrots. Sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, pears,Apples, winter squash mix, prunes, bananas.

We've done purees and are starting some blw, but that scares the beejeebies out of me, so we are taking that slow. I have the wholesome baby food book and check out that blog but I need some ideas and motivation.

Lo is almost 8 months old.
