2 months is crazy early!! My understanding is that a baby is nowhere near physically ready to handle solid food at that age.

@MamaMoose: same here! My mom said she was wanting food because she figured out her jaw and does this Popeye thing all the time now. She stares at us while we eat but I truly don't think she knows what we are doing??

My ped told me yesterday at her 4m appt to wait til 6m. 2m seems so early!!

My friend started around 3 months but just rice cereal because he was spitting up a bunch and then waking up all night hungry. I understood all that but then she started adding applesauce to make it sweeter which I didn't agree with.

@sunshineandsushi: yikes. My two month old shows interest in my food because she's interested in EVERYTHING I do. Doesn't mean I'm going to start sharing with the little bugger : )

Lately most doctors are recommending to wait til 6 months, In the past doctors did recommend 4-5 months. 2 months is very early but each to their own

Wow! Sounds super early to me. I personally would wait until at least 4 months. A lick of fruit before is fine since nothing solid has to be digested though.

Wow that seems super early, my DD was just finally getting used to the bottle at this point, purees seems super early. My doctor said we will talk about solids at her four monthcheck up (on Monday) as she wants her to beef up, I was wanting to wait until 6 months, but I'll go with what the doctor suggests in this situation due to my DD's weight and stomach issues.

We were told initially to wait until 6 months, but due to some possible GI issues, we instructed at 5 months to start cereal and fruit to help her digestion get kickstarted. She was nowhere near ready for food at 2 months. Could barely hold her head up, let alone sit supported!

Yikes. My doc said we wouldn't even start talking about it until her 4 month appointment. But I do know my neighbor started at 3 months on her doctor's advice. Her son was just SO hungry all the time. They could barely keep enough formula in the house to feed him! He's 6 months now and doing great.

yikes! 2 months?! A baby's digestive system is not mature enough to deal with solid food that early on. It can lead to food intolerances, allergies, and there is even a correlation with type II diabetes. We generally recommend 6 months here.

Someone I know on FB has already started feeding purees to her 2 month old. This seems super early to me. Our pedi recommended 4 months to start foods. I'm curious, what is the earliest you've heard recommended for babies to start solid foods?
