@shopaholic: ok, then that doesn't sound like normal spit up.

R just has a lot more spit since crawling, pressure on the belly. We have to have her sitting for a min. of 20mins after a bottle or solids or it is major puke city.

@keiki_mama: Thanks!

@Smurfette: It's literally a huge puddle inside her bib (with a catchall) and when DH ed her, she puked on the bowl and it was hanging off the bowl like 1 foot long. Only after the cereal. Will try again today and see how it goes...

@shopaholic: If it wasn't projectile vomit, then I would assume it is normal spit up. Is it just after she eats the cereal? No increase the rest of the day? What did you mix it with BM?

I started feeding DS solids at 7 months and it freakin took forever! I think I clocked it and it took him 1/2 an hr to finish some banana. I feel for you! I add a bit of molasses to his morning oatmeal because it is high in iron. No advice on the throwing up but I hope she gets over it soon!

@Smurfette: IDK... it was really kind of thick and clear and stringy - like ma lot of mucous. But had the cereal in it too. If that makes sense?

@shopaholic: FPIES is usually more delayed, with the most common timeframe being about 2 hours after ingestion. I believe the typical range is 1-3 hours with some being more or less delayed.

@Elderberrygin: I will ask next week too!

@SugarplumsMom: Like solid rice or rice cereal? I don't think it's the quantity. She has maybe 1/2 oz.

@Mrs. Polish: I keep hearing different things regarding the iron though, and the ped did say I might need to give her vitamin supplements? I'm just trying to add more iron-rich foods to my own diet.

@anbanan15: She is a slooow eater. So maybe ~ 15 min. into feeding her? I'll look into that - thanks!

@shopaholic: How long after eating is she vomiting?

If it's delayed at all it sounds like classic FPIES (food protein induced enterocolitis syndrome). Oatmeal is a common trigger along with rice, diary and soy. You can learn more on IAFFPE.org and thefpiesfoundation.org.

Lo has always thrown up, but when we first started solids it was worse and he acted uncomfortable for a few weeks.

Also, as long as you're still giving bottles/bfing I don't think you have to worry about nutritional concerns. Everyone told me that before the first year, you're just teaching them to eat.

This happened to DD when she had white rice at around that age. She wasn't interested in solids at all, so we kept pushing it back and trying little by little, but she'd refuse. At around 7 months, we visited my mom and she tasted rice. She looooooved it! I was so happy that I kept feeding it to her and she was happily gobbling it up. Then she threw up

I figured it was because her little tummy wasn't used to solids yet and I should have just fed her a little. We never had any other issues with rice after that initial incident.

I don't have any answers, but my LO did this with sweet potato puree, twice, with different batches. We just cut out sweet potato entirely and went back to things she didn't react to. I'm planning on asking our pediatrician about it next week.

Could it be a stomach bug? I think if it was too filling, she would probably stop opening her mouth but maybe it expanded in her little tummy and it was an overload? Just taking a guess!

It's totally normal for slow, picky eating at first! E didn't eat consistently until she was 10 months and something that she loved one day, she hated the next.

K hasn't really been interested in solids. It's REALLY slow to feed her anything, I'm talking 1/2 oz. maaaybe. She likes when I give her water from a straw. Since she's over 7 months now, I'm kind of worried about iron deficiency, so I gave in and gave her oatmeal cereal. I had planned to skip cereals entirely, but the ped and our friends and family kind of keep pushing it. To my surprise, it is the one thing she actually opens her mouth for! Still takes forever to feed it to her. Yesterday was the second time I gave it to her (with water too) and she threw up A LOT. I figured I was giving her too much water, so I just fed the cereal alone tonight, without the additional water, and she threw up again. The cereal is pretty watery and she's not gagging. This hasn't happened with the purees.

Anyone have an idea why she's throwing up the cereal?
