LO showed interest when she was 5 months and I have her a bite of banana here, a taste of pear there but I waited to get confirmation from her doctor at her 6-months appointment because I really started on solids. I was EBF and it was truly enough to keep her satiated.

@looch: yeah I don't think he NEEDS it, EBF should totally be enough for him at this point.

The guidance where I live is to start at 4 months with orange vegetables, so we started with carrots, then sweet potatoes and butternut squash.
My son was hungry and I had to give him something else for a host of reasons, but I can understand the hesitation. Trust your instincts.

I was pretty set at starting my son on solids at 6 mos, or whenever he started expressing interest (if that wasn't til after 6 mos). But he will be 4 mos on Friday and he seems to be interested in what I am eating already! Yesterday afternoon I was eating pear sauce (pureed pear, like applesauce), and gave him a little bit and he loved it. I totally expected him to gag, or spit it out like his cousin did/does. But he got so excited and started kicking his legs and waving his arms - so cute! then he couldn't take his eyes off the pear sauce.

This morning he was intently watching me drink my green smoothie.

I'm not sure how I feel about all this!! I know for sure I won't be giving him ANY infant cereal/rice/grains, so if I started I'd go right to veggies and fruits.

What do you think? Is 4 mos too early?
