@coopsmama: thank you for sharing all this with me!!! I really appreciated that. I'm gonna try to do eggs in the morning and see if he likes it. He's been interested in my food for months so I'm gonna start adding some "real" food in his diet.

@jh524: We actually just introduced eggs a week or so ago. I was nervous about that because it's one of the more frequently allergenic foods and I'm a paranoid mama :) but others on here said they have around 7/8 months so I figured it was a good time and we went for it and he loved them! He especially loves them if we sprinkle cheese on top and let it melt in a bit.

Honestly, I haven't really followed a plan with feeding him but just followed his cues! He has been interested in food since 4 months so we started giving him tastes here and there. We started out with pureed avocado and pureed banana. He has one of the little mesh self-feeders and we put pear slices in there which he LOVED.

At around 6 months, I started doing purees here at home -- I'd bake a sweet potato (for one hour at 400 degrees), and puree it in my food processor with one avocado and one pear.

Baby led weaning totally stressed me out for a first child, and he didn't really have his pincer grasp down when we first started so we stuck with purees til about 7 months. We've never bothered with oatmeal or rice cereal. I just let him try my foods as we go and let him try things and see how it goes. We've been working on adding textures for the past month and he has gotten good at using his gums to chew.

Don't feel bad about where you are with your LO. :) It's often said that "food before one is just for fun" and I definitely believe that. It just so happens that DS enjoys food and gets irritated if he sees us eating and doesn't have a meal himself! I know one woman who had one child who was an early eater and another one who still only barely dabbled in solids at a year and they weighed just about the same and both are extremely healthy kids despite different eating habits in that first year. :) Good luck!

We always allowed him to lead and control how much food he took in. It's worked well for us! (15 months now).

@coopsmama: wow!!!!! When did you introduce eggs? Your lo is eating well!!!!

Thanks for sharing. My lo is 8 months and he's bf and gets maybe 2 tbsp. Of canned peas, squash or applesauce once or twice a day. I need to get it together here....I just don't know how to go about planning meals and what to give him. Did you go somewhere to get the info. That helped you get your lo on this type of eating ?

@jh524:  Let's see here... today:

Breakfast:
1 egg, scrambled
1/4 cup whole fat Greek yogurt with maybe 10-11 smushed blueberries in them

Lunch:
1 Peter Rabbit Organics Pouch - Peas, Spinach, and Apple
Handful of puffs
Smushed cooked black beans

Dinner:
Maybe a cup? of lentil, chicken, celery, carrot, and brown rice soup with bone broth
1/2 cup apple sauce

Hope that provides some insight. :)

@coopsmama: what's an example of your lo's 3 big solid meals? My lo is 8 months as well and I'm curious what others are doing.

We started out slowly at first, but honestly, after making sure the foods weren't causing him gas/constipation, we let him decide how much he wanted. At first, it probably wasn't much more than a tablespoon or so each time we offered.

He has increased the amount of solids he eats as the months have gone on and at 8 months he has 3 big solids meals (always about an hour after finishing a bottle). I think they are pretty good about knowing how much they can handle. :)

We're offering solids 3x a day, but LO never eats more than 2 tsp or so. She's not all that interested.
Id go with your gut, though. If she's had her bottle, and still wants to eat, it's probably not a bad thing. I don't know for sure though.

I never went by the book with any of this stuff, so take this with a grain of salt, but I would just follow her lead. I imagine even if she eats more initially she'll lose interest soon enough, and then you can stop. I mean, if she seems like a bottomless pit, I'd stop, but try offering more one day, and consider going until she refuses? If you're offering after the bottle I think you're okay!

Worst that happens is you have some un-fun constipation times...

After getting off to a slow start with porridge (not such a hit), LO is loving her purees. She has tried apple, pear, blueberry, pumpkin and sweet potato so far and is really enthusiastic, which is great, I'm just not sure how much I should be feeding her at 5 1/2 months. At the moment we're giving her 2 tsps of puree, once per day. This means the pouch lasts 3 days. She never refuses, so not sure how much is too much. We do solids half hour-an hour after a 7oz bottle feed.
