@dc yoga bee: how have things gone for your LO eating & your supply? Did you supplement with formula?

As for me, I did have oatmeal for breakfast 3 days in a row (& then ran out) & I noticed a good increase in my supply, I think. Good to know I can kick it up again if need be. I forgot to, but I meant to get some mother's milk tea to try, too.

@dc yoga bee: PS. I didn't mean to imply that I think you are being too emotional about it, although I see I may have done it by accident  But if you are feeling more emotional than you want about it, I stand in solidarity with you!

@dc yoga bee: we just give the additional formula she wants without issue on days I work. It hasnt effected my bf relationship with either of my kids. My only guess is that they get more when I'm home because the pump is inefficient. We've never had an issue with brand of formula either just whatever sample we have.

@dc yoga bee: Blech reverse cycling. My LO is doing that too. Try formula warmer than you think! DS would drink it once we tried it warmer than my milk.

@MrsSRS: I should've added that's the most she's ever taken from my mom. Sometimes, she won't eat but 12 ounces, and waits for me to come home and nurses all night. The ped told me she's reverse cycling. She's always been tiny, but gaining steadily. "Petite, but porportionate!" the ped says lol!

@Ms maths: Thank you for the tips! I know I'm probably being emotional. I can tag along with DH on a work trip to Cali where he'll be for the weekend, and I'm obsessing about the whole pumping/nursing/milk situation that I just told him forget it!

@GoGoSnoGirl: Oatmeal helps me get a good amount in my morning pumping session. I've never tried brewer's yeast! I really like mother's milk tea too.

At 8.5 months baby probably needs 20 something ounces of milk a day even with solids, so sounds like supplementing is a great idea. We tried similac for supplementing and it smelled exactly like regular similac, but I think it's supposed to be sweeter.

Following. I don't pump (regularly), so I don't really know for sure what my output was, or is now, but I feel like I dropped off a cliff of milk production recently. :bummed: My 8mo LO is eating some solids, but certainly not enough to sustain her yet, and I too am not ready for the nursing relationship to end, and certainly not suddenly. I'm just today starting to eat more oatmeal and brewers yeast hoping that will help. I wouldn't have the slightest idea what formula we should use if it comes to that.

I can sympathize with babies not eating. I have an 11 month old (LO2) who is committed to chewing but apparently thinks swallowing is for other people :(

We started giving formula to LO1 around 8 months, when it seemed like my second pregnancy was affecting my supply. We started with a name brand, offering formula mixed with breastmilk. He rejected a few bottles, then started taking them, and we eliminated the breastmilk from the mix pretty quickly. He didn't seem very picky, so we switched around formulas based on free samples/what was cheapest. My impression has been that the nutritional content of formula is fairly consistent, so you don't need to be too concerned about what you use unless your child has an allergy or an adverse reaction.

I brought up the supplementing issue with the pediatrician, and he pointed out that LO1 was already eating lots of stuff other than breastmilk and formula was just one more thing. (And I now think I was being very emotional about making a choice that kept my kid healthy and happy. Can I blame early pregnancy hormones, please?)

We stopped nursing at 10 months as the supplementing coupled with pregnancy definitely dropped my supply and he lost patience for nursing when so little milk was available. I initially did some extra pumping, but I ultimately decided that it was something I was willing to let go.

I've become attached to our breastfeeding relationship. It was difficult at first with an oversupply, and acid reflux. Now, we have made it to 8.5 months (this Saturday) exclusively breastfeeding. Here's the issue, DD will not eat solids. We have been trying to get her to eat solids for months. Purées, baby led, gerber graduates, and nada.

Which leads me to the supply portion of the title. My body has naturally started producing less as the pediatrician told me would be normal around 6-8months. I pump anywhere from 11-14 ounces on a good day. DD is drinking 15-17 ounces during the day, and nurses 2-3x at night. I drink water, eat oatmeal, mother's milk tea, and fenugreek. I pump every 3hrs, and let the pump go for an extra 5 minutes afterwards. She nurses on demand when I'm home with her (4days a week.) So, she's burned through my breastmilk stash, and I have enough milk to feed her through Thursday, and won't have enough for a full day Friday if my output stays the same. So, should I supplement? I don't know where to begin. I still have tons of samples. Is there anything different about similac for supplementing? Also, any tips to get her to eat would be great! I don't want our nursing relationship to end, and I am proud of how far we've come :)
