We've had a few snow storms when DH has been deployed. I usually have neighbors or DH's coworkers come over and take car of everything for me.

@Foodnerd81: I would! Message me if you have trouble finding someone and I can ask my family that lives in the area.

My husband was gone the whole week a couple years ago when we had a blizzard every other day! I was pregnant with my daughter, cried, and stayed at my parents for the week :)

@ocean81: I heard possibly Monday, then again possibly weds and Thursday! Winter just decided to wait until I'd be home alone for a week. A-hole.

So I should call a plow guy now right, in advance of the storms?

I would hire someone to shovel / snow blow / plow! Also, when is the next blizzard?! I didn't hear this yet!

@Foodnerd81: for the season. He comes multiple times per storm and since we live in Atlantic Canada we usually average 2-6 storms a month.. We live in a LOw cost of living area though so I don't know if that price is typical.

@JerricaBenton: @snowjewelz: oh man I would love if some neighborhood kids wanted to shovel! We have a couple of teenagers on the block but I think they are too young to really shovel a whole driveway (all the driveways on our street are pretty big).

@Charm54: is that $350 for the season? Or per plow? I clearly have no idea what this costs!

Ugh it sucks. I have to shovel a good patch in the back for our dog. I'm newly pregnant so I didn't want to attempt anything big with what heavy wet snow we had. DH only left Thursday am so he arranged for a plow. We have a few enterprising neighborhood kids who come around so I'd usually ask them but I knew they'd only get to a few houses with this storm.

We always have people knxokinf our door after a storm. I called some guys last night just in case and they bailed! Luckily someone knocked on our door later. DH is home but with a sick toddler that I can't tend to since I have the newborn we decided to just hire someone.

Ugh it sucks. When my husband is working super late or on call I just call a plow guy. We have a snowblower but it's finicky and hard for me to do. We also have a long driveway and I'm pregnant and while I CAN do it if I need to, I would rather just pay a plow guy one off rather than spending hours out there!

I clear the driveway in the morning before she is up. I was shoveling at 5:30 this morning. Luckily her room is on the same side as the driveway so I can hear the monitor loud and clear.

Yeah it sucks. The first few winters my dh would snowblow when he got home from work. He works long hours though and it sucked being alone with the kids stuck inside all day only to have dh come home from work then spend 45 minutes clearing the driveway. Not to mention if the weather did clear up mid day, the girls and I were still housebound.

This year we got a snow removal guy for like $350. Worth every penny 🙏🏻 . I can usually shovel the walkway if the girls and I go out to play, if not dh does it when he gets home but it only takes a few minutes

DH is often gone during inclement weather. I have the phone numbers of neighbors to call if I need help. I have 4 wheel drive so generally try to limp by without cleaning the driveway out. We live in a rural area that is often last for the snow plows to visit, so even making it home from work is sometimes a concern. I'm ready for spring! Good luck next week!

What do you do when you are solo parenting and have a snow storm? Specifically things like clearing the driveway when you have no one to watch the kids while you do it?

This is our first winter in a house, with a pretty big driveway. We've been pretty lucky with the snow this year anyway, but DH always does the major shoveling or snow blowing. I can do a little shoveling either during nap time or having the toddler "help" and bundling the baby up in her stroller in the garage watching us. But DH is going to be away all next week and they are calling for another blizzard.

I guess I will just call a plow guy? What do you do?
