@yellowbird: We all got food poisoning but it didn't hit DH and I very hard, so I'm sure his poop was pretty acidic.

@littlek: DH dropped him off and talked to them about it, I'll talk to them again when I pick him up.

@DillonLion: The regular policy is to at least check his diaper every two hours. But the floater told me he got upset around 3:30 and I didn't pick up until 6... so she should have seen the diaper rash before then.

@Adira: I'm not sure what DH agreed on with them, but I'll talk to them about checking him more frequently for sure.

@edelweiss: E had such a hard time napping at daycare. It wasn't until he moved up to the older infant room and they had scheduled nap time that he finally slept for any significant time. Good luck!

@cheert16: Yea, I'm more peeved that they didn't even put any ointment on it. It was more than obviously inflamed.

@LuLu Mom: I'm thinking she put his last diaper on for the day and didn't put the ointment on? Or didn't tell the floater about the rash.

I would be extremely upset, although maybe something happened to your LO like mine. She actually ended up being allergic to the milk that they serve at daycare and even though the teacher would change her within seconds of her going she still had a horrrible rash. Much like the one you describe! I couldn't figure out what was going on until I started sending her own milk and it went away immediately.

Maybe something about his poop was extremely acidic? I would still be pissed there was no ointment on it though. :((((

I'm so sorry :( I'd call and check up on him a few times (I'd be super annoying).

I would for sure ask for a diaper chagne every hour to insure a dry enviroment. I wonder why his regular teacher is taking the fall?

I would be totally mad about it and say something at pickup! Maybe while he has this super bad rash- they can check his diaper more often? Or at least put some diaper lotion on to make him feel better.

ETA- it sucks being a WOHM sometimes

oh i'm so sorry! it must have been heartbreaking to realize your little guy had been in pain. sounds like it was an isolated incident, perhaps caused by the shifting staff? in any case, i'm sorry. if i start to think about how big of a sleep deficit LO has from hardly ever napping at daycare, i feel awful--i know he would nap more if he were at home with a nanny.

How frustrating!!!! Poor baby!!! I would be upset too! Can you maybe ask them to change him every hour while he has the diaper rash and to use aquaphor or desitin or something??

Ugh so sorry!! What is their policy on diaper changes? They need to change him more frequently and create an ointment barrier!! Gah, I am mad for you.

Most of the time I'm happy with our daycare, but days like yesterday make me with I could quit work and just stay home.

It turns out we all got a bit of food poisoning from the restaurant we went to on Sunday night. It didn't kick in until later in the day yesterday though, so E was at daycare and ended up with diarrhea. At some point he must have sat in a dirty diaper for an extended period of time because he ended up with a raging diaper rash.

I picked him up last night and his regular teacher was not in his room. A floater told me he had been upset that afternoon, but they let him have his paci while he was playing (not something we normally allow) and he seemed fine. No mention of diarrhea or diaper rash. I picked him up to leave though and he screamed bloody murder all the way until we got home. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, he wouldn't eat and in desperation I let him watch some cartoons. He pooped, so I went to change him and found the diaper rash. It looked like a chemical burn and there was definitely no ointment on it. He screamed in pain the whole time and I felt so badly for him. We put him to bed, but he pooped a few hours later and woke up screaming in pain again. We just hosed him off in the shower, trying to minimize irritating the area more.

I'm just so so irritated. How long was he sitting in a dirty diaper, why didn't anyone put any aquaphor on it? We brought some to daycare just recently. How long had he been sitting in his diaper yesterday afternoon that the floater didn't change it and realize that he had a raging diaper rash and that's why he was upset?

To make it all worse, I have major guilt because I couldn't take off work today to stay home with him, so he's back at school. DH talked to them at drop off today and his regular teacher said it was her fault? ummm, ok I guess. I've been sitting at my desk all day just imagining reaming out his daycare teachers, which of course would not be socially acceptable, and I'd never have the guts to do anyway. So on top of everything else, I've been super unproductive which nearly defeats the purpose of having to come in to work in the first place!

Sorry this is a novel, I really needed to vent. WOHM problems...
