@bees_knees: thanks for this. I’m really glad they took a closer look at the policy. As sad as it would be to deliver alone, not allowing someone to be with pediatric patients is especially problematic.

I am terrified of that happening here. I'm having a repeat C-section on 4/9 and the visitor restrictions seem like they keep changing. As of today, DH is allowed with me for labor & delivery and post partum, but, if he leaves the hospital during my stay he will not be allowed back in. Which means we have to find care for our 3 dogs now since he won't be able to go home to care for them at all. And, he won't be able to go see our older daughter unless he doesn't want to come back to the hospital. I'm so sad for her. :crying: none of this is what I had planned/expected. And, I'm terrified of my parents getting sick (they'll be taking care of DD1, but I'm also just in general concerned for their health!!!).

Oh, that's terrible! I'm not even sure what the point is, because chances are that if one parent is sick, so is the other. Keeping one of them out of L&D is likely to be kind of useless.

Thinking of all those mamas. I can't imagine going through either of my births without my husband. I wasn't allowed anyone with me in recovery after my c-section and that was hard enough!

I’m in Western NY and thus far the hospitals here have said they have no plans to follow suit. Birth partners are still allowed to spend the night. They are very carefully screening everyone else and from what I have heard in our local Facebook group from moms who delivered within the past week, the hospitals are so empty with fewer patients and no visitors (other than the birth partner/support person, end of life, and change in medical status). FWIW 100 people in my county have tested positive and there are many others who have just been told to quarantine based on tell tale symptoms since there aren’t any tests left. The statements being put out by the hospitals are very supportive of birthing women and it has been very comforting to see.

@JennyPenny: ugh. I'll be thinking of you. I am worried about passing the screening for my OB appointment tomorrow. I hope the fact that it is not a dry cough and it is not new will help.

As my hospital's current visitor policy reads, DH will be asked to leave after delivery. I'm only allowed 1 visitor "during delivery". So...that will be different BUT if that is the worst of it I will be thankful.

@DesertDreams88: This has me so sad. I was reading a similar article in Paris and it started with a woman being told “be prepared to give birth alone” Absolutely gut wrenching!

@SweetCaroline: I’m right there with you. I’ve got a c-section scheduled in 3 weeks and also have allergies and asthma. I get a cough any time I’m slightly congested and have one now 😬 I’m just really hoping I kick this before I deliver so there’s no worry that I’m sick with COVID . I trust the doctors to recognize that my symptoms don’t match with a Covid diagnosis and hopefully they won’t do anything too extreme. I also doubt my hospital will switch to no visitors in the coming weeks, so I’ll expect to have my husband. What I have seen a lot though is your 1 visitor can’t come and go. We don’t have that in place yet but it’d be really hard on our 2 older kids I think. Plus it puts extra pressure on packing a good hospital bag. I’m trying to keep my anxiety at bay but I’m also really mourning what I thought was going to be a relatively easy and stress-free delivery and newborn period

I expect my state to follow suit soon. I am due in 8 weeks, who knows what the situation will be then but am preparing myself for no outside support.

I am more terrified that my asthma/allergy cough will land me in the COVID maternity ward. I totally get it, just worry I'll be sent there and have my baby and I be exposed if I don't have it. Also afraid if I am suspect for COVID, my baby will be taken from me. I have moments of panic, but also so much uncertainty and who knows what the situation will be in 8 weeks.

horrifying... I'm pretty sure I would have passed out without my husband the first time and would have had an emergency CS under general anesthesia.
