I just got the 50mm f1.8 for my Sony a few weeks ago and love it! I feel like it unlocked the true potential of the camera. I got it over the 35mm due to the price difference. I probably would have preferred the 35mm if the prices were closer. You have to remember that there is a "Crop" factor on most NEX cameras so you have to multiply the focal length by 1.5 to get the film equivalent. Therefore, the 50mm is actually a 75mm on a traditional film camera which puts it in the short telephoto range. This means that if you have small rooms in your house you might struggle to get everything you want in the frame. Or with fast moving subjects they may move too much to frame easily. I'm photographing my 4 month old so he isn't moving much at this point, but in the future I can see it being a limitation for the 50mm. It takes wonderful portraits though!

@Mrs. Lion: oh good to know!! thanks for the fast reply! i love auto also and manual is pretty easy once you get a hang on which buttons/dials control what! on mine the dial can push down the aperture (down to 3.5 on the kit lens) and the wheel for shutter speed super fast! so tempted to drive down to the nearest best buy and pick up those second lens to get that f 1.8 but they are so pricey! :crying:

Yes! I have one and also have the second lens you linked to. I love it! I need to learn how to get it out of auto and take better pictures myself, but the camera takes great pictures on auto. We do like the prime lens better than the one it came with, but both are great!
