Its probably flea allergy dermatitis though as another poster said demodex mange could also be present. Bring him to the vet and they'll probably recommend a skin scraping to check for the mites and possibly give you a medicated shampoo to calm down the skin. He's probably too young for Bravecto which can be used off label to treat demodex and is a flea treatment that lasts for 3 months. Hope you used a reputable topical flea treatment as opposed to the crap they sell at Walmart that doesn't work and can be toxic (i.e. Hartz or biospot) if so your vet will likely recommend a better topical to apply.

@Mrs. Sunshine: Sounds like it could be demodectic mange. Don't worry, not something humans can get and is pretty common in puppies. Definitely worth having a vet take a look. It's easily treatable but can get really out of control. If it's really just flea irritation, oatmeal bath would probably help and he should heal up quickly.

My FIL rescued a little puppy yesterday and we're thinking of taking him in. Poor guy is so eaten up by fleas. We've gotten rid of the fleas but he is extremely itchy and has raw patches and his fur is thinning in the bad areas. What can I do to soothe his skin and stop the scratching? Here's a picture for good measure. We've been calling him Dakota.
