@winniebee: I didn't start by choice, he would scream and arch his back whenever we tried to swaddle. We use halo swaddlesacks and wrap him up with just one arm out for about a week now. He does ok. He kept himself up the first nights by grabbing at his face, but he's already gotten better at just touching his face instead now. I'm thinking we might go both arms out this weekend... getting crazy over here!

DS has been sucking his thumb for the past 2 weeks and it definitely soothes him, he actually does it during tummy time. He's 15 weeks. We stopped swaddling a long time ago because he kept breaking out of it and getting the swaddle over his head.

my Lo will be 5 months next week, she stuffs all her fingers in her mouth, sometimes both hands! She sometimes looks like she is sucking her thumb but then quickly gets impatient and adds more fingers. I dont think she will be able to soothe herself with her thumb

E is almost 4mo old and has been chewing on his hands for weeks also... But now that we're swaddle weaning him the only thing they've really been good for is pulling his pacifier out of his mouth which just makes him ticked off. I wish he'd soothe with them!

My son is only 4.5 months old, and he discovered his fingers a few weeks ago. He recently started sucking his thumb, which I find adorable! At least now it is! Later, I know it won't be ;)

LO is 16 weeks old and she is OBSESSED with sucking her thumb. This has been the case for about 3 or 4 weeks now? I am a little concerned about her attachment, but honestly, I have tried and tried with the paci and she just does not care for it at all. I'm hoping it won't be a massive struggle to wean her from it when that day comes.

yay! I loved it when Wagon Jr. found his fingers (he sucked on his first and middle fingers) because he could soothe himself so well with those. I know some people get worried about breaking that habit, but he dropped it on his own around 1.5 or 2 years old.

T found his hands about 6 weeks ago and has been sucking on them ever since (and now his feet, eewww!) More recently, he has figured out how to suck his thumb. He shoves his thumb and sometimes his fingers in his mouth so deep that he gags himself (not so bright!) I thought by now since he's so fixated on his fingers and hands that he would have figured how to self soothe with them. I was sort of waiting to swaddle wean until he was showing signs he could do this. He's 4 months.

Did your LO figure out how to sooth by sucking his hands or a finger? If so, when?
