@pui: ANA is an autoimmune test... it's not conclusive, but it can be helpful!

@pui: Totally true! Is there any typing you do when you're not designing? If you can cut that down, you can reduce the amount of repetitive stress so you can save your hands for the design work!

@pui: You could check your past bloodwork to see if they checked for ANA.

@mrbee: Well I can't really design with voice :\ Takes a lot of keystrokes and mouse usage to design a website.

Eh well hopefully I'm pregnant soon and become a SAHM anyway lol!

@pui: Arthritic pain often comes after a delay...

<< Early symptoms of arthritis of the hand include joint pain that may feel "dull," or a "burning" sensation. The pain often occurs after periods of increased joint use, such as heavy gripping or grasping. The pain may not be present immediately, but may show up hours later or even the following day. Morning pain and stiffness are typical. >>

http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00224

I think though given your profession, I'd be most careful of carpal tunnel... I've had some friends whose careers were really hampered by it. You can switch over to voice/dictation pretty easily for a lot of things these days though, which can help a lot!

I've been doing all the research on autoimmune stuff and this sounds like it could be a sign of arthritis.

Inflammatory type issues can take years to actually crop up. They're the result of every day usage, so you can be fine for years, then suddenly have pain. And just because it's not in the area you would think it would be in, doesn't mean it's not related. Sometimes pain can crop up away from the site of orientation

@blackbird: @Mae: Like I said, I use my keyboard at work every day and have been for years and this is the first time I have ever experienced pain like this ever before. I should note too, where the pain is (in my palms) isn't effecting my typing and it doesn't hurt to type. Sometimes I do get wrist soreness which I think it probably caused by typing, but I have no wrist pain right now.

@edelweiss: I have a Android phone (so no keyboard, just a touchscreen) but I rarely write messages on it.

@mrbee: Hm not really. It has just been super cold.

Yah it could be carpal tunnel or the onset of arthritis. Has it been raining/wet out lately? That can worsen things too...

Maybe some sort of carpal tunnel? I was having some hand pain/numbness a few months ago and went to see my GP and she said its almost inevitable if you work on a computer a lot.

I noticed this starting yesterday. I was writing a list of things I needed to do and I noticed my hand felt stiff and it was hard to write. It didn't really hurt, but it made my handwriting much worse than normal lol.

Well today I woke up and both of my hands are sore and hard to move. The soreness is sort of in the middle of my palms and it seems to be mostly affecting my thumbs.

I haven't been using my hands for anything unusual that could have made the muscles sore. I was on a computer all day for the whole week, but I am always on my computer for 8 hours a day every weekday and experience no pain. I've never had anything like this before.

Any idea what this is all about?
