@PinkElephant: I have a friend who has the same boots and she agreed about the traction being crummy. I just got some spike grips from Costco for winter walking. There have been too many near falls for me while carrying a baby in my Tula or while pushing a stroller.

So I tried them yesterday and liked the fit/feel of my normal size. I went ahead and ordered bc I got these plus a pair of Sorel expeditions for DH for less than the Joan of Arctic boots normal DSW price...But after reading all this feedback I will definitely wear them around the house a bit before wearing them outside to make sure I want to keep them. Thanks everybody!

@Ms. RV: thanks! I know I am weird but I kind of like the weight! Maybe over time it will bother me but idk. I’m a weirdo! 🤣

@lioneyes: thanks! Tried on in the store so I would know the size. Strangely, I thought they ran spacious!! Boots are tricky like that!

@Iced Tea: thanks! I will have to pay more attention to that scene when I’m wearing them around the house. I tried them on with my usual winter will socks yesterday and did not notice a problem, but I did have two of my three kids with me, so my focus probably wasn’t on the perfect fit.

@gotkimchi: Thanks! I will have a look around. Clearly I am looking at style here on these particular boots, so I may still need a pair for true playing in the snow.

@looch: Thompson hear about the one part. I tried in the store and did not find them that hard to get on and off, but I can see how you couldn’t do it in a hurry. A lot of the reviews say the same thing… I’m giving it a try but we will see at the price I paid I can resell them and get all of my money back probably if I don’t like them, so it’s worth a go.

@SugarplumsMom: Same! I’m having trouble finding a pair in storage try on, and anytime that I can find them for slightly less than retail online, they do not have my size. They look great but I’m not willing to spend $300+ On the newest model at this point! We live in the nyc teistate area, so it’s not THAT arctic!

@Mrs. Goose: hmm the traction part worries me. I am glad you mentioned it, I will definitely give them a test run before deciding to keep them for sure

I tried them on and hated them. Too bulky and heavy. I recommend Columbia Minx. They are lightweight, sooooo warm, and have a similar look.

I have them. They are warm but heavy. And i would say size up half a size at least bc they do run small in length (thick socks aren’t the issue).

I tried them in the store and the seam where the two materials join was so uncomfortable to me. It was really tight there. I couldn’t stand it!

I have them and although they definitely keep my feet warm and dry they are so so heavy it makes me not love them. I don’t hate them but I prob wouldn’t buy them again.

@PinkElephant: I have a pair of snow boots from mountain warehouse I really like. Maybe check that site out. We basically live in the tundra so they are warm/snow/waterproof

I've been looking into new winter boots as well. I don't like heavy boots, so the Sorels wouldn't work for me, but I hear they're virtually indestructible. I've been curious about Ugg Adirondacks (rated to -32˚C / -25˚F), but haven't found them in any stores around here. They're a similar style and seem comfy enough.

I was gifted a different kind of sorel boot by a family member who ordered the wrong size and I much prefer it for walking. So far it has kept me warm, but it hasn’t gotten very cold yet. It’s similar to the sorel emelie conquest.

My other issue with sorels is I find the soles of the shoe are like a sheet of plastic and very slippery on the ice. I have had that issue with both pairs and find them very dangerous. I don’t know if that’s just me.

@PinkElephant: definitely kept my feet warm and dry always. It gets to -20 or 30 here and we get a fair amount of snow. If I could though I’d wear flip flops 365. Haha.

I had a pair for 4-5 years, but gave them to a friend when we moved to SE Asia. They are super warm, I mostly bought them so my feet wouldn’t freeze at the playground in winter. I could wear them with regular socks and they were plenty warm; I think they are rated for -30 degrees. They are definitey water/snow proof. We had a few winters where we had snow for weeks or months at a time with sub-freezing temps, so I wore them constantly. That said, they are heavy and kind of clunky, but that never bothered me. I walked everywhere in them since we didn’t have a car.

I’m not sure I’ve ever tried those, but I have the Sorel Tofino ii and I really like them!! They are cute but functional (and warm! We are in Montana and it gets coooold here!) and comfortable! I get compliments on them all the time :)

@Mrs. Goose: Thanks for this! Did they keep your feet dry? I'm not sure how I feel about the heavy part, but the warm part doesn't bother me. If I didn't feel like the got so dirty (from my feet being bare in sandals outside), I'd probably wear my shearling slippers in the house in the summer :) :)

I had some and really didn’t like them. I didn’t mind the look, but they were really heavy and that was probably my biggest complaint. I do a lot of walking and spend a fair amount of time outside with my kids during the winter. I also don’t like how warm they are for inside stores. I would want a boot that’s lightweight and easy to put on and take off. I recently sold mine on a buy and sell group.

Does anyone have these? I feel like I've seen them come up before on this board. Do you love them? Hate them? Feel kind of "meh" about them? I'm considering a pair but want to feel sure before I spend what I feel like is kind of a lot for non-technical winter gear.

I've previously had some winter boots that try to be both stylish and functional at a lower price point ($75 or under, probably)....and have started to feel like they just really miss the mark. My current pair of winter boots are a few years old never really kept my feet warm, and now they're cracking and letting my feet get just soaked, and I'm just over it and ready to find something better. I want to look good, but have also got to have something comfy and functional.

I'm also looking at the Lands' End Squall boot (very similar look), but the online reviews are a bit mixed, and I'm worried the price is too good for them to be really great boots.

I'm not going on crazy winter hiking expeditions, but I need to be able to (a) run the kids around town in all kinds of snow and muck and (b) help clear the driveway without freezing my feet/getting soaked and (c) play in the snow, or at least supervise snow play.

Thanks for any input (or other recommendations!)
