@Foodnerd81: eeek! Well it's been 2 weeks and she has yet to bang her head into the crib! I think she really likes the snug feeling as well. She takes great naps in there for us. I fluff up the nest every time I change the sheets (so every week) because she tends to *try* and smash them down and get over them every few days...but has yet to be successful lol!!

Good luck!!

as a side note, she now spins during tummy time...no rolling yet, just her turning herself around... hah!

@Bookish: I had to search for this post- we started swaddling arms out and now we have a spinner! She woke up whining last night but there was this weird banging sound- she was kicking her legs into the slats repeatedly. I may try a nest for the snugness and the spinning.

@Mrs. Blue: The nests are awesome! Night 3 and she managed to spin partway and then got stopped by the nest edge. Works so well! She also STTN last night....but I'm afraid to jinx her!

DD does this too. We were recently at my mum's house and DD slept in the PnP and somehow started the night normally in the PnP (laying lengthwise, at the top end) and by morning, despite being swaddled, had shimmied her way down to the very bottom and turned 90 degrees.

She did it in her crib too when we were still swaddling. So we switched her to the Merlin sleepsuit (LOVE that thing) and put the crib "nest" a la Mrs. Blue back in and now she doesn't wiggle around at all.

ETA: Just saw your update. That nest is magical, isn't it?!

Update!

After this thread I made a Mrs.Blue- style nest and VOILA! 2 nights of a non-spinning baby! We also seem to have hit the 4 month sleep regression, but hey, at least the goober is staying put!

Woot!

I'd wait it out! As she becomes more mobile it won't be as much of an issue. Sadie has always moved all over her crib. Hitting herself or getting stuck upset her in the beginning, but now she can adjust. She hits her head on her crib several times a night now, but usually isn't phased. She'll move if she's uncomfortable. Sometimes she will let out a little wail, but she doesn't wake up, so I leave her be.

@Bookish: Just wanted to add onto what @Ms.Badger: said - our LO also started to roll back to belly and got very upset when she'd get "stuck" on her belly. The first night that happened (a week ago), I kept going in and rolling her back.. the second night we decided to let her learn to sleep on her belly (or flip herself back) so as long as we knew she wasn't hungry, we let her cry for a bit.. and she did fall back asleep! Different than hitting her head on the crib slats of course, but it did take a few days to learn to sleep on her tummy and her sleep has improved vastly since then. You never know!

@Cherrybee: aw don't be scared! I actually think now that it's partly because of her cold...I had to pick her up from daycare today with a fever, so the more frequent spinning the last few days may have been restless sleep.

@Ms.Badger: oh man that's rough. Thank you, I'll definitely up the tummy time!

I don't want to be a super-downer but want to share my experience. My LO started off exactly like this, moving in circles around the crib, he would wake up, but for him this moving seemed to be a way to self-sooth and my DH and I would just laugh at the new position he was sleeping in each time we went to check on him. Then he learned to roll, specifically he loved rolling back to belly but HATED rolling belly to back. He continued to move but would get stuck on him belly and CRY until he was moved. He would not tolerate being prohibited from moving with rolled up blankets under the sheet. For a whole month we were going in at least 3 times a night just to roll him over (add in late night feeds and teething and these are some LONG nights). So my advice - tummy time, tummy time, tummy time and hopefully your LO will roll belly to back so she never gets stuck because nighttime moving may be here to say.

I'd go straight to a floor bed for this baby, honestly. When my daughter was 8 months old, she was waking herself up banging into the side of her crib. Switching her to a very low full sized floorbed fixed that problem and improved her sleep immediately.

DS has been doing this this past week!!!!! He's 13 weeks old and is always 90 degrees from where I lay him down at. I even tried putting him closer to the rail on the opposite side of where he spins to and his head still touches the opposite rail! He always spins the same direction, and is also swaddled which baffles me even more!

@looch: No, she ends up with it right in the middle of the front rail. It didn't use to wake her up, but it's getting to the point where at least one time at night she wakes up crying because of it. It may just be something we have to deal with until she learns how to roll.
