@Foodnerd81: They are planning on introducing it to Young Toddler Program which is for babies 12-18 months. My LO is only 6 months so she won't be able to start until January. She would be at daycare from 7am-6pm twice a week and 7am-3:30pm three times a week. I think the infant class(under 12 months) will only get some story and and singing time in Spanish...some exposure is better than nothing! :-)

I voted 100% as well. Our son will be starting the chinese track at a language immersion school this fall. They speak 100% in the foreign language.

The more the better in my opinion. We're going to be doing Spanish Immersion at Montessori.

Is this a full time day care (like 9-5 or there abouts)? I don't have a LO yet, so I'm not at all speaking from experience, but I feel like if they are spending 8 hours a day there, I'd want a good percentage of it in English, too. I don't think I would want them to only be learning English at night and on the weekends. But I guess, how old are the kids, too-- if they are already speaking, like 3-4+, then I would be far less concerned about getting enough English there.
Either way, I definitely wished I learned another language earlier-- I started in high school and never picked it up at all.

@sloaneandpuffy: I think I'm leaning towards 90 or 100% because we only speak English at home!

This is totally not my situation since I live in Mexico, but were I in your situation, I would vote 100%. If your child is speaking English at home that is enough English. Also, we are talking about daycare, not regular school. If it were normal school I would want to be sure the child is learning to write and read correctly in both languages, but that is not the case with a daycare. (FWIW we speak both at home and my child will go to an English-language school, but living in a Spanish-speaking country should keep everything pretty balanced out.)

I like the idea of an immersion program but since it sounds like its just going to be an add on component, I voted between 30-50%

One of the schools in my area has a "Spanish immersion" program; I just looked it up and they use a 90/10 model, meaning 90% of their interactions are in Spanish and 10% are in English. Since most of the kids in this program speak English at home, using Spanish most of the time at school gives adequate time for them to practice both languages.

Our daycare is thinking about adding a Spanish-language learning component to their fall curriculum. They gave parents surveys to see if it would receive positive or negative responses.

DH and I strongly support this learning component but we aren't sure what percentage of learning should be in Spanish only.

If your daycare offered a Spanish-language learning component...what percentage of your child's time would be "Spanish only" (meaning no English would be spoken)?
