DS2 does, he's still an infant so the extent remains to be seen. Are you just asking for curiousity?

My daughter has diagnoses of ADHD/ODD and PDD-NOS. Our experience has been mixed. Several people who used to be friends decided that she was just a "bad" kid and that was all there was to it. We do get that reaction sometimes. Maybe even often. Family mostly seems to minimize it. We get comments about how she isn't "typical" for any of her diagnoses (like that is some sort of amazing specially awesome thing), or about how "well" she is doing. As for how we are handling it, it varies. It is expensive. It is time-consuming. There are many days we feel like we have put in a super-human effort and still aren't seeing the results we'd like to see, and some days we feel we haven't done the best job meeting her needs. Right now our biggest struggle is school. Most of her behaviors and quirks are fairly manageable at home or one-on-one (though it is still a challenge), but her starting school has really brought some of those things (like peer interactions, dealing with authority figures, dealing with time constraints, dealing with academic expectations) to the forefront. In addition, the fact that she isn't doing poorly academically complicates things.

Excuse my ignorance, but at what point is a child considered "special needs"?

My LO isn't but I'm genuinely curious.

@Mrs. Jacks: I've always been curious. I've worked with special needs individuals since I was in HS & haven't see any mothers speak out on HB. I'm sure I've probably just missed it.

If anyone wants to speak out feel free to message me on my wall.

Do we have any mom's on here who have children with special needs? I'll add a poll but I would like to hear what your diagnosis is & what your experiences have been. Has your family & friends accepted it well, better yet how are you handling it? What challenges have you faced?
