Correction to the above post- it’s $78 extra (on top of the $58) to get the deluxe items which are the tote bag and cooler bar with 2 storage bottles.

Hi, I'm due in May 2020, and came across this post during my pump upgrade research. I also have UHC and am looking to get the Spectra S1 pump. I also found Milk Moms to have the best pricing- it's going for $58 in 2020. Anyhow, here's some updated upgrade pricing that I've collected on the Spectra S1:

Adapt Health- $80
Byram- $75
Target/McKesson- $80
Aeroflow- $135
Insurance Covered- $80
Milkmoms- $58

I think I'm going to purchase the S1 plus deluxe which they quoted for $78 upgrade price... it's the same as the S1 but you also get the Spectra cooler, a couple more storage bottles, and a pump bag (I think its the Bananafish one).

@SupernovaJ: Thank you  I was hesitating because I read online that it's not a great everyday pump, but I'm SO GLAD to hear from a real-live person I can interact with (vs. a years' old review on the internet).

@smuckers: So glad you asked. I actually loved the S9 and had zero issues with it. I used it a good amount as I had to travel here and there, and would exclusively pump during those times, multiple times a day. I loved the compactness and portability, didn't notice its power waning over time, or any other issues with strength and efficiency. My very first pump was the Medela PISA but much preferred the S9.

@SupernovaJ: ...I don't mean to threadjack but also how did you like the S9? Did you use it everyday? I am getting another pump for work (previously had the S2), and am considering the S9, but I'm worried that it won't last for 3 pumps a day every day.

@PurplePumps: I agree, Aeroflow and Better Living pricing was disappointing. I have the S9 from my last pregnancy and honestly loved how portable it was, but will probably need two since I'll be pumping at work--and may keep the smaller, less efficient one at home since I will mostly nurse when not in the office. Actually, I'll be lucky if I can even find my S9 somewhere down in the basement!!

Thanks for sharing. That's nuts though, Aeroflow and BetterLiving doesnt even seem like a differential pricing. S1 can be bought outright for 175-200 as it is! For that upgrade price, I think I'd take the S1 from insurance and just pay out of pocket for S9 for battery and portability when needed.

I'm currently pregnant and have been looking into ordering my breast pump which is covered through insurance (I have UHC). While the Spectra S2 model is covered completely, I'd like to upgrade to the S1 model and pay the difference out of pocket (the S1 has a chargeable battery and is therefore portable). I honestly didn't even know you had the option to "upgrade" -- I know I am totally behind the times!

After doing some digging, I learned there are several additional DME providers who are contracted with insurance companies that provide breast pumps--these are companies in addition to the usual ones your insurance will tell you to contact over the phone with national accounts (ie: Edge Park, Byram, etc.). I've been shopping around and thought it'd be helpful to share the best pricing I've come across. Note: This pricing is particular for UnitedHealthcare coverage only. Prices can be even lower if you're with another insurance provider. In fact, relative to other providers, I've noticed UHC doesn't offer the best breast pump coverage.

Currently, the S1 is sold at certain retailers and reputable online sites direct-to-consumer for ~$160. I believe Target is offering the sale price of $160. You might be able to find it even cheaper. And below is a list of out-of-pocket pricing if you're looking to upgrade to the Spectra S1 model via UHC insurance.

Milk Moms - $56
Edwards Healthcare - $80
Aeroflow - $135 (not worth it, similar retail)
Better Living Now - $168 (not worth it, similar to retail)
Acelleron - Not contracted with UHC
Pumping Essentials – Not contracted with UHC
Westside Medical Supply – Not contracted with UHC

I'm sure there are several more distributors but these are the ones that came up in my initial google search. My question is, have any of you found better pricing than Milk Moms?

Edgepark, McKesson, and Byram were the three distributors my insurance company referred, however they only offer the Spectra S2 for UHC patients and unfortunately, there was no option to upgrade to the S1. Just thought I'd share for anyone who may be interested.
