sounds normal to me. my daughter could put two words together at 23 months, but then literally the week she turned two, her language exploded. his could take off in a few weeks. I feel like she went from not really making sense, to speaking in sentences overnight!

DS probably said closer to 20-30 words, and the pedi said that's perfectly normal/okay! All his words are tainted with baby accent so you have to listen very closely to catch what he's saying. He's 26 months and had a word explosion the past week or so and is in the copy cat phase!

E was not talking much at 2. I'm not sure how many words she had, but she definitely seemed far behind lots of my friends' kids! At 2.5, her language has exploded

Sounds about right. My DS just turned 2 and is delayed, perhaps has 15 words or so. Even for him, some of the therapists say he's on the low end of normal!

That sounds exactly like my son at 2! It is a huge range at that age. The doctor was slightly concerned that he was not stringing words together, but just said to monitor and we would re-evaluate at the 2.5 year appt. well, within the next month he had a language explosion and is now stringing 2 and 3 word phrases together all the time! So I would say don't worry about it!

The range of normal at that age is vast. E has an evaluation every 6 months at nursery and the box they tick to indicate where she is at development-wise is "6-36 months". 6-36 months?? WTF???!

I would say normal...C only started putting 2 words together a few weeks ago and now is talking in 4-5 word sentences ("Daddy sleeping in da bed") I can't believe how quickly she progressed with it because I remember wondering at the end of July when she would really start putting two words together. It's like she had a little mini speech explosion, which I heard is quite common!

Up until then she was babbling in her own little language and the only word that made sense was the last word, lol... "Omna peta ego ili fora POOL!" :silly:

At 2y/o I was also concerned about my DS not stringing together two words but he had about 100 words at that time (some were made up though - like yah-yee for yellow). At ~26 months he suddenly made many two word combos. Then at ~28 months he suddenly talked in 5-6 word sentences. And now at 2.5 he can tell me the entire 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed story!!! And also lots of no mommy stop talking. Why mommy. Geez mommy. LOL

Sounds like your LO is doing just fine. I would give him a couple months and see.

At LO's 2 year well visit the nurse asked if she could say 50 words so sounds normal.

That sounds totally normal to me. I was concerned that M wasn't putting words together at 2 - it really exploded for her around 28-29 mo. Now at 33 mo, all she does is talk all day long and she says new phrases everyday.

I think there is a huge range of normal at that age. Its hard not to compare to other kids the same age but I would try to go with whatever the ped says. Once the language explosion hits he will probably start surprising you every day with what he says. Also one stereotype that seems to be true a lot is girls talking earlier than boys, at least among the kids I have been around.

He sounds like he's doing great! My son was evaluated and qualified for speech therapy at around 18 months, and he had, like, one word at that time. The fact that your son has around 50 sounds good, I think at that age only 50% of their language is supposed to be intelligible to people other than parents./caregivers. Is his pediatrician concerned? If so you could always get a reference for early intervention screening, for your own peace of mind, but as I said I don't think there's any cause for concern.

My LO turns 2 in a week and a bit and I am not sure if I should be concerned about his speech.

He says probably close to 50 words not all clearly.
He follows instructions quite well.
He rambles all the time like in his own language.
He doesn't join words together yet well ones that make sense.
He responds to his name
He did go backwards a little bit when his sister was born.

Not sure what other points I need to cover...but anyone have/had a similar 2 year old?
Is he just a late talker or should I be more concerned?
