@Mrs.Lilac: Yes, only once a day. It's good to BD every 3 - 5 days in general so your SO can have a fresh supply of good swimmers.

@Mrs.Lilac: I wouldn't do it more than once a day, it takes sperm time to regenerate, so no more than once a day. Look into Sperm Meet Egg Plan more, it will help explain it.

Very interesting to hear about doing it EOD opposed to every day. Hmmm, gonna try EOD this next cycle. I have no idea about the quality of DH sperm but who knows. We may have gone overboard as on my most fertile days we were doing it twice a day as I thought the more the merrier (sperm that is!) but maybe that was too much?!

@Kelli_Deluxe: Interesting! It definitely makes sense. DH is getting tested soon (I hope), so we'll have an idea of whether or not we should be adjusting our timing.

@RonniLeigh: I've heard that only applies to sperm with low count or motility. For example, DH's little guys diminish if we do it every day. On the flip side, his don't have a long life so he has to "release" them every 3-5days! Another reason we like the SMEP!

It seems to me that the SMEP could be adapted for your specific cycle as long as you know generally when you ovulate and how long your cycle typically is. It looks like the instructions assume you have a very text book cycle, but if you adjust the dates to within a week or so of when you typically ovulate it could still probably apply. For example, I ovulate pretty consistently sometime between CD 20 and 23. Given that I probably wouldn't start SMEP until CD 14 or 15.

That being said, DH and I are pretty active. We DTD almost every day from the time AF ends through until a few days after O. I figure one of them has GOT to make it to the egg sooner or later. :silly: Speaking of...does any one have an intel on whether or not doing it every day could actually hurt your chance such as causing DH's sperm to be weaker or the sperm count lower?

Same as PP, it doesn't increase your chance but it helps you more perfectly time BD. there's still luck in all of it though.

@Mrs.Lilac: Depends. My husband has low sperm count and cruddy morphology...so we were advised to do it EOD.

Ok I guess that makes more sense. Still made me laugh! I'm definitely going to try this. We have been DTD every day from cd5 to ovulation. Is that not better than EOD? I just need to continue it longer I think.

Too bad there are so many variables that also come into play like...sperm quality, CM quality. :: sigh :: I wish I could control everything. Also, according to my RE...at 30- chances drop to 10%. -_-

I do SMEP! We time it around our iui's. It definitely makes sense and it makes me feel more "in control" haha. And I think they mean if you were just having sex randomly through the month there's a 25% chance of catching it; but this plan "ensures" you'll get to the egg, then it's up to the sperm to do work

Yep you have the same chance either way. The SMEP really just insures you have very good BD timing, which doesn't raise that 25% chance, it just ensures you get that full 25% chance.

@Mrs.Lilac: I think they are saying that if you time everything right then you have a 25% chance, and by employing SMEP that you are, in fact, timing everything perfectly, so thus guaranteeing that 25% shot.

ETA: Just saw @Raindrop 's response.. whoops!

So I read that you have 1/4 chances if it's perfect... so the sperm meets egg plan gives you that "perfect" chance better. If that makes sense.

I would definitely do the sperm meets egg plan if my periods weren't wonky!

Ok, so just been reading about this technique which mKes a lot of sense. I think I have been stopping DTD to soon after ovulation. Anyway, I read this from the website...

'Even if you time intercourse perfectly, you’ve only got a 25% chance to get pregnant each cycle. The SMEP method ensures you get that 1 in 4 shot by literally making sure the sperm and egg have every opportunity to meet each and every cycle.'

What's with those stats??!! You only have a 25% chance normally but this technique gives you a 1 in 4 chance...... Erm, so we have the exact same chance either way??! how stupid do they think we are or am I reading that wrong. I just read that to my DH and had a good chuckle. Still gonna give it a try though ;)
