We did it and despite following all directions to a T we kind of got a faulty result (it didn't do anything). When we added one more drop (as I thought that on one or two the drops hadn't been enough) then it worked and said we didn't have an issue. We couldn't trust the results.

I definitely recommend getting a semen analysis. It tells you much more than this test and even if it isn't covered by your insurance it only costs about $100 (at least it did for us).

I decided to save our money and go right to the doctor. Reviews led me to think they're not worth the money.

We've used this. It most likely does what it says it does - indicate whether count is over or under a certain threshold. But the problem is that unless you get a negative result on this test (basically saying there could be low count), you're left without any useful information. Things could be totally fine, or there could be low motility/morphology going on.

If a SA is covered by your insurance, then the copay can't be much more than this (if at all) and you'll get much more useful information out of it.

Totally not worth it, to get an accurate picture of a male's fertility, you need to have a sperm count, sperm morphology (sperm shape and anatomy), and sperm motility (movement). An over the counter test can't perform what a microscope can do. Sorry, I used to work in agriculture production medicine, so I've spent more time than I care to admit staring at those bad boys under a microscope for other species... but it's the same idea for humans too. And stuff like that makes me mad since they are just trying to make money off people who want a baby so badly.

Plus I wouldn't want to even hint at any guy that he might be the problem, they can be kinda sensitive to that. I'd rather let that one come from a doctor's orders to get testing done. Glad your guy is happy to give a sample though ;)

@Sugar.Biscuit: Haha, that's very sweet of him! It's great that he's willing to get checked - not every man is brave enough to do so!

@swedishfish: I talked to DH a min ago & he said he would be more than willing to shoot his load into a cup for me...lol sorry if that's tmi DH has always been the romantic type. He certainly surprised me with his wiliness to do so.

Still curious to see what other Bees have to say about the OTC sperm check.

I would just ask your OBGYN or RE to ask for a semen analysis. DH had to do two of them - no big deal!

We tried it - test came out that we had a problem - cant remember if negative or positive was a good thing.

Anyway.... DH said you had to make sure to get all of it on the test or it could be read wrong... So he said he did miss some of it.

We ended up being pregnant about 3 weeks later!

Has anyone tried this?
http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/spermcheck-fertility-home-sperm-test/ID=prod6094323-product

One of the articles I read said don't waste your money because it can't give you an accurate sperm count or detect mortality rate. Others say its the next best thing to getting in done in the lab.

I had considered asking DH to do it but the cost over the counter is a little much. Plus if I asked my DH to do it it would hurt his feelings, having a doctor recommend it...well its coming from the doctor and not his wife.
