I always just chalked it up to taking in a little too much, and also my not burping enough mid feed. But, they were also clearly in pain, so we put them on meds. I'd check with your ped, but our basically said as long as it doesn't seem to be bothering them and they're gaining weight, it's best to just deal with it rather than do medical treatment. Thankfully, she grew out of it after she was sitting up unassisted. I know, that's a long time away but all I can say for now is keep lots and lots of towels and burp cloths around (and changes of clothes for you and baby). A lactation consultant advised me to give him a pacifier for a few minutes after a feeding. The extra swallowing really helped keep everything down. </p> <p>FWIW, DS was never interested in the paci and would spit it out anyways after maybe 5 minutes. My LO was a happy chucker for a fair while and even at twelve months she still occasionally spills after a big feed. He grew out of it! My babe did have a bit of reflux, so you could have him checked for that. I don't know what to tell you either way but maybe someone else will. </p> <p>I do know my friends son spits up all the time, but seemed perfectly happy like you describe. I'm talking projectile spew, massive projectile spew, sometimes comes out his nose spew!! Usually it's when I try to burp him at the end, but it also happens after I've burped him and sometimes even when he's still latched!! Urgh!! He isn't bothered by it at all! In fact he looks really happy and peaceful after it. I never have a warning sign that it's going to happen - he isn't fussing at all! </p> <p>Why is this happening? It's such a waste of a feed and milk!!! Should I be unlatching him and burping him more often?<br /> Anyone have any advice? </p>
