Great topic! We do some of what's been mentioned-- reading blanket, glow stick baths, forts, picnics in the living room, etc. We also lay out sleeping bags in the living room at times and will turn the lights low and have fun with flashlights LOL. Idk why the kids get so excited over it and making shadow images.

Agree with forts!

Also we do stuff like pretend we are camping. Set out a few camping supplies, flashlight, blanket, and read books Etc

It's been snowing so I've been putting towels on the floor and packing bowls full of snow for the boys to eat and play with. They love it!

We usually do take out in front of a special TV show at the kids table :grin:

@Cole: Oooh popsicle bath!!
I loved reading LO a story about a child making a fort and then, BAM, surprising LO with building a fort immediately afterward. I think that reinforced her interest in reading even more. Plus the fort was lots of fun...for about an hour.
@bao: We also do an easter egg hunt in the yard, in the dark, with flashlights.....and it's not even Easter! :)

@Cole: I'm stashing the popsicle bath away for this coming summer when I'll have a newborn and the 3yo at home! It might be a good way to keep her happy while nursing!

I love this idea! My lo is still pretty young but I did this a lot as a nanny, some of my favorite ideas are:
Eat off of (washed) play dishes, they are extra tiny and seem kind of silly
Surprise them after nap with a mini fort, a blanket over the table with a few pillows does the trick
During the summer we did "popsicle baths" and they could eat a popsicle in the tub before bath (so ideal with toddlers! and we used the zoku maker so that was a fun first step and they weren't filled with junk.)
Maybe even just being silly with getting out the door when you have an extra few minutes- try putting your coat on them and the baby's coat on you type of thing.

We do Reading Blanket. It is like a picnic in our living room floor but with books. We lay and sit however and just relax. Having a blanket out is our cue it is a special time of focused reading. Like an event.

During the week we stick to a loose routine, and it works out great that way. However, I would love to add in some fun little things to "spice up" the day a bit. I want to keep the same similar routine, since we have to get two meals in before school, do drop off and pick up, baths...it kind of has to run a certain way...BUT it does get boring.

So, for example, the other day I let the girls eat at their little table in the living room, and they thought that was so fun and they ate really well, maybe coincidental but I'll take it! I want to do other little things that don't really change the schedule much, but are fun for the girls, so I'm looking for some ideas. It can be with meals, baths, getting ready, etc.
