Not so much, nice or easy (at my gym anyway). But it's a great workout for sure!

Oh definitely do it! I'm seriously missing taking those now that it is summer and I have the time. What a fantastic workout. And like PPs said, you can totally amp it up or down as you get used to it. It also pushed me to do cardio for an hour when I know I get bored on indoor machines way earlier than that.

I loved them, though occasionally cheated a little and didn't turn my resistance up as far as I should have. But it was a great work out, and even though I have fibromyalgia, I was able to attend!

I try to make it to spin about once a week. I admit I don't set the tension as high as most of the people do... when the instructor says, "up 3" I'll up it like 1, haha! I should probably push myself a bit harder.

@Mrs. High Heels: You are such a trooper! Its great to know you were able to make certain modifications to the bike to keep it comfortable for you. I hope to be able to keep my current work out routine going when I'm lucky enough to have a LO on the way.

@lisamarieloves: I took spin all through my 2nd trimester... I just made the handlebars higher so I wasn't hunched over so much. I actually think it's a GREAT pregnancy exercise because you can modify it to your comfort level and it doesn't kill your joints!

I've actually seen pregnant girls continue to take spin classes. One of the instructors at 24 hour fitness was actually pregnant for a while. I suppose you just have to know your body and do what your doctor says.

i'm obsessed with spin . just finished convincing my dad to try a class with me... i described it to him that after a class, you'll feel totally worked out and sweaty, but you won't be out of breath like running. you will be sore the first few times in your "seat bones" area, so either padded shorts or a padded seat cover (which they might have at the gym for you to borrow) would help. definitely have someone help you set up your bike the first time, and if you have back issues, make sure to raise the handlebars. wear shorts or capris and a tank and bring a towel and water, because you will sweat!!! and, if you like it after a few times, i'd reco investing in spin shoes that clip in to the bike, i think it makes a big difference especially when you stand up. have fun and make sure to strech after (esp. your hips and quads)!!!

Spin class is AMAZING! I went to about 15 classes (twice weekly) before we cancelled our gym membership. The first class will make you want to never go back, but something about it sucks you in! The feeling you get when you're done is amazing- So much adrenaline is released. Don't let the first session scare you away :) I couldn't ever wait to go back to class! Your feet will strap into little straps on the pedals if you wear regular tennishoes, or you can buy bikes specifically for spin. Your legs will feel like jello after. And don't worry if you can't get out of the saddle on your first day. (stand up on the bike)....it's tricky. Let the teacher know that it is your first time so she or he can set up your bike for you. The music is loud, room is dark, and hopefully the teacher isnt afraid to shout at you! Overall it's fantastic.

Love spinning! Did it all the time before I got knocked up. It's a great workout & after every one I was exhausted & drenched in sweat. Like the others said, if you don't like it at first, give it a few tries & the instructor really makes a difference. If you decide you like it, investing in the shoes is a great idea. Oh, and your arse & or girly bits will definitely hurt at first, but it gets used to it after a while  Or get a cushion.

I love my spin class and it is definitely hard! My instructor competes in the ironman triathlons! I don't wear padded shorts and found after a couple classes that it didn't bother me anymore. Definitely have the instructor help you set up your back as it makes a big difference if you have the wrong settings. I don't own them myself yet, but have heard from a lot of people that buying the spin shoes does make a difference.

I love spin classes and take them regularly!! I started taking 6 am spin classes Tuesday and Thursday morning at my local 24 hr fitness. I never bought padded shorts or a gel seat cover and have never really been concerned about a sore behind. I don't know any one that wears padded shorts to class. But I do highly recommend that you buy actual cycle shoes with the clips if you decide you want to do spin classes on a regular basis. You can have your bike on whatever level of tension you want and... seriously... you can go at whatever speed you want. At places like 24 hour fitness, there are all kinds of people taking the classes with all kinds of levels of fitness. You will be fine. If you get into a more higher intensity type class like the ones offered at SoulCycle (or, if you are lucky, you may find a gem of a class at 24 hr fitness), then you may feel the need to be more competitive. But you just work to your best ability and its a great workout!

I love spin classes. I personally think they are far more challenging than some of the other group classes (i.e., Zumba, step, etc.). You definitely get your cardio, but the other posters are correct. Be ready for a whole world of PIA for the first couple of classes and then you're good to go.

Hated it at first cuz it was so hard and I got tired so quickly and could never finish a class, but once I got better it was something I really looked forward to. I leave dripping with sweat. Haven't had the time to go to one in foreeever though... I really miss it. I even have cycling shoes just for spin. The instructor makes a world of a difference though... hope you find a good one!
