We have the LG one pictured above too. By and large I really like it a lot. It does a great job with cloth diapers (that load is closer to two hours though). The speed setting actually works beautifully unless my husband over fills the washer... (and seriously, the washer is enormous so it takes a lot of stuff to over fill it.) My one grip complaint is with most clothing that's not jeans you need to make sure your spin cycle is on low. The others are so fast that the clothes get really tangled and it stretches out arms on t-shirts. The super speedy spin comes on handy other times though, stuff comes out almost dry.

@regberadaisy: ummmm... I haven't yet.. ha. That's kind of embarassing I guess, but I haven't noticed any problem with my clothes.

@MrsSRS: Where did you buy the detergent? What's the brand?

@regberadaisy: yeah I often use baking soda or vinegar to neutralize DH'S gross work clothes, but when it stopped working I decided it was time to wash the washer

@MrsSRS: I noticed that and I thought it was because we mixed DH sweaty clothes in with ours. LOL! I added some washing soda to neutralize the odor.

Our dryer died right before July 4th weekend and because Lowes was having an amazing sale we decided to get our first ever brand new set. Based on reviews on lowes.com we got the same one as @sslm: 5 out of 5 stars on almost 2,000 reviews can't be wrong?!
So far we love it. The cotton/ regular cycle is 57 minutes. The delicate is slightly less. It's awesome being able to wash our cali king comforter at home with no issues! Instead of doing laundry daily, we're doing laundry like every third day and it's all done in 1 or 2 loads! Folding such a big load is the only downfall. :P

@sslm: @MrsSRS: how often do you run the tub wash cycle? Is a tub washer detergent an absolute need? How do you remember to? We've had ours for just over a month so I guess it's time to??

During my research I've read a lot of dissatisfaction with Samsung washer and dryers too!

Hmm interesting I had heard some negative things about Samsung before , I've been looking at LG mostly cause they have less confusing models than maytag or whirlpool.

I have a whirlpool top loader washer/dryer and I love it. My clothes are always clean and there are lots of great settings. It doesn't have a "quick wash" setting so the cycles are pretty long, but my Mom's front loader that has quick wash is deceptive because it is never actually quick - it "senses" the clothes then decides to wash them for an hour even though you selected quick. Super annoying when we are trying to wash our sheets and put them back on the bed before leaving the beach house, it takes all day.

I have the new Samsung washer and dryer set with the sink built in. It's awesome! I love it. It has all sorts of washing cycles, including quick cycles and self clean. I have the matching dryer and I really like it too. I feel like sometimes it takes longer than it should to dry, but meh. It does a good job too.

Eta: the ONLY problem I have with the washer is the drum is really deep and me being vertically challenged, it makes it hard to reach washcloths and socks at the bottom. I use a step stool for a lift up to get all the way down.

I hated my front loader. It easily grew mold and was very noisy. It died on a us after 8 or so years and we literally just got a top loader delivered today so I don't have a review on it yet, but I'll get back to ya!

Mine gets hard use because my husband works in construction and gets filthy and it's great. It has quick cycles (35-40 minutes) but also options for more intense soaking, etc. It does need to be cleaned occasionally or it gets smelly. I buy the oxiclean washer cleaner and use the 'tub clean' cycle.

@Mamaof2: I think the HE-ness of it doesn't work well. It seems like unless it is very full there isn't enough water. But it also has a huuuuge drum so it is really hard to get loads big enough (like ALL of my kid's clothes only fill half of it...)

Spin off of the other post. Everyone seems to love top loading washers, and I hate my front loader. We're redoing our basement and are planning on getting new machines but consumer reports basically says top loaders are terrible. Whats' your favourite? Does it have a shorter cycle (less than 60min?) Bonus points if you know the model!
