We made this corn pudding last year for the first time, and this year I am doubling it because it is SO good!!

http://www.midwestliving.com/recipe/southwest-corn-pudding/

Also, these are my favorite sweet potatoes EVER! I always skip the marshmallows, though. It's great, I always make it a few days ahead of time (I think it actually tastes better that way) and just heat it up in the oven once the turkey comes out.

@mrs. bird: ooh I'm liking the cinnamon apple cranberry sauce. My go to for the last few years has been to add ginger and orange. I'm ready for more sweet than tang though.

@keepcalmcarrie: I add sautéed portabellas, onions and sometimes cheese for a loaded Pioneer Woman's mash.

Here's my much-requested-at-Thanksgiving CORNBREAD STUFFING recipe...I used to make it with my dad and then all by myself after my parents divorced.

4 cups cornbread (make it with real cornbread or Jiff mix), make this in a cast iron skillet that, the day before. Don't cut it up until it's time to assemble

2 pounds sage sausage

Trinity- onions, peppers, celery, 1/2 cup each chopped

Raisins, golden or regular, 1/2 cup

Brown the sausage, remove from skillet

Sautee Trinity in sausage drippings, toward the end throw rising just to soften

Cube/ gently crumble cornbread in a bowl

Mix in sausage, trinity & raisins
Season with poultry seasoning, Lawry's season salt, sage, and smidge of pepper- all to taste, but you want to taste it

Transfer to casserole dish (I like to ball up the mixture and stuff/ jam it into the dish, we used to do this when stuffing the bird)

Pour over a little turkey broth or turkey pan drippings for moisture while baking (my dad used additional oil to cook the sausage & trinity, so if you do that you won't need this liquid).

I'm hoping someone posts an OYSTER DRESSING recipe, which is what I'd like to try the next time I host at my house.

Bake covered for 25-30 minutes until at 350°.

Libby's pumpkin pie recipe (use the canned pumpkin, not the pie filling). The recipe is always on the back of the can! I strayed once or twice in a rebellious phase, but never again. ;)

Like @Ra:, I'm hosting Thanksgiving for the first time this year, and I'm getting a lot of good ideas from the logistics conversation! Anyone also care to share the recipes for their favorite Thanksgiving dishes?

I've made most of these before - they're starred - but here are the ones I'm planning to use:

-Good Eats turkey recipe
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/good-eats-roast-turkey-recipe.html

-*Pioneer Woman mashed potatoes
http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/11/delicious_creamy_mashed_potatoes/

-*Cranberry sauce
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/cranberry-sauce/

-*Green beans amandine (I add extra lemon and pepper)
http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/green-beans-amandine

-*Carrots and onions glazed with brown sugar and butter
No recipe for this, just basically thick slices of yellow onion and baby carrots sauteed with tons of butter, brown sugar, salt and pepper

-Simple buttered corn
Again, duh, no recipe

-*Apple pie (I use 4 Granny Smith apples, along with 2 Cortland or Honey Crisp, add extra cinnamon, and brush the top crust with egg white and sprinkle with lots of sugar)
http://www.pillsbury.com/recipes/perfect-apple-pie/1fc2b60f-0a4f-441e-ad93-8bbd00fe5334

-Store bought pumpkin pie, rolls, and possibly stuffing ;) I might try to make my own, but I like the pre-made stuff too and I'm trying to simplify.
