@brownie: aww poor little guy!
M screamed for most of her first 3 weeks as well. When I started cutting ALL gassy foods we saw an improvement along with gas drops. At around 6-7 weeks I started cutting 85% of milk/dairy and all evident soy products. She has not really been that fussy since then except for after her shots and at bedtime when she's sleepy.

Weird thing is the day I started this thread she actually napped twice for an hour each! Then yesterday twice for 30 minutes each. First naps in over two weeks!

My son didn't start napping until about 1 year old. He literally screamed for 12 or more hours a day for the first 3 weeks of life. He then just was gassy and extra fussy until about 6 months old. He was diagnoses with silent reflux at 2 weeks old. We dropped all dairy and soy at 4 months and dropped his reflux meds at 6 months. We didn't see improvement until then. If I had to do it again I would have dropped soy and milk before doing medicine.

We found happiest baby on the block and the swing to be a godsend. He slept Swaddled in the swing until he was 4 months old. Then just in the swing off and on until 6 months old.

@jennylynn: Every baby has reflux to some degree, and spit up can vary in appearance and consistency with no problems. Appearance isn't a great indicator of reflux. My LO usually has curdled spit up, and spits up several times a day still, but she definitely doesn't have reflux. I would definitely look into it more if your LO has the other indicators (fussiness, LOTS of spit up, not gaining weight, etc)

C hates napping anywhere but in the swing and she is a screaming mess when she's tired. She's so bipolar though. She will have a tantrum and then start laughing and grinning at me as soon as she's done. lol. Crazy baby.

@artbee: His 2 month appt is in 2 weeks, so I'll ask then. And he has the curdled spit up and the "looks just like milk" spit up.

@Sammyfab: Huh. It's amazing how many of his cries now mean "I'm tired but don't know how to fall asleep." But then I get him to sleep and he wakes up so soon after!

At that age I bent over backwards getting LO to nap and he would only go down for 30-45 minutes at a time. Maybe an hour if I was lucky. He was a cranky, fussy mess then! I wish he had been a happy bugger like your LO...it would've made the days so much less stressful!

@artbee: this is kind of a gross question, but what does the spit up look like with reflux? Our LO recently started not napping very good at all, and she's more fussy than usual at times, and spits up often. Usually it's almost a curdled looking spit up, but not much.

@pastemoo: Everyone says it's normal for babies to spit up a lot. If you're worried, it never hurts to call or take your LO to the doctor.

@artbee: Huh. My LO spits up a ton, but he doesn't cry for that long usually. He has recently taken to shrieking (and shrieking himself awake).

@regberadaisy: I just put LO down for a nap... and I know he will be right back up again. I need a nap! Lately I take naps on the couch with him--then he does stay asleep. I have to be on the couch, so he can be in the corner, facing me, on my chest but also on his side so he won't suffocate. Then I don't have to worry about my arm collapsing when I sleep. I don't get deep sleep, but it's better than nothing.

@pastemoo: She did gain weight. But she would have crying fits if we laid her down after she ate. And nothing could stop her. I'd do everything- bounce her, put her in the bouncer, go on a walk, go on a drive, etc. And she spit up a ton. I don't know what took me so long to figure it out with all of those clues!

@pastemoo: @mamajaja: glad to see there are others out there with happily content LOs who don't nap!

@artbee: she used to be like that but not since I cut out milk. I really think for her that was the cause.

@regberadaisy: YES. This is my LO... since birth. But he seems happy and is gaining, so I just go with it. Every once in a while, he takes a mid day 3 hour nap.
@artbee: How did you figure this out? Did she still gain weight?

@artbee: did she cry during the day?
If M was crying then I would try to find out why. But she doesn't which is what's peculiar!

M is 10 weeks old and for the past two weeks she has NOT been napping. All she ever does is take 15 minute cat naps in your arms. The second you put her in the crib her eyes are wide open and she's ready to go. The funny thing is she's not cranky because of the lack of naps. She's usually cooing and aahing and smiling.

Any one else's LO not nap?
