I had all the birthdays listed on my classroom wall when I taught, and students got to get a prize on their birthday. Summer birthdays got theirs in June on the number that matched their birthday in July and August.
I didn't want to allow cake because not every parent could afford to supply for their child's birthday. I allowed it, but no singing of happy birthday.
When I subbed, I worked at one school where they got volunteers at the beginning of the school year to provide a cake at the end of every month to celebrate that months birthdays. I'd do that again!

Mine is during the school year and nothing ever happened, no locker decorations or anything, so I think it'll be awesome for Wombat to have a July bday (Leo too) and have summer-y things to do.

In elementary school I took in a cake baked and decorated by my mom when it was my birthday. I was lucky my birthday was during the school year so I got to enjoy birthday love from all my friends

I have a summer baby and I worry her friends will be on summer vacation for her parties :(

But I am looking forward to pool parties, and when we went on vacation my sister who was born in August got to celebrate her birthday like 5 times because we'd go to different relatives houses and they'd each give her a little party. So I'm sure she'll be ok.

My birthday is August, too, so it never got celebrated at school which definitely was a bummer. I don't know what they do during the school day but it seems like every kid starting from the age of 3 has a big party at an indoor gym, like Kids U, on the weekends and has to invite their entire pre-school class. It seems like birthdays are a really pricey thing nowadays!

I'll preface this with I was born in '77. When I was in elementary school, our parents would bring in treats for our birthdays - cupcakes, cakes, ice cream, etc. We would sing happy birthday and THEN, the teacher would lay us over her lap and spank us the amount of years we were. Haha, can you imagine that happening today??

I have heard they don't allow homemade treats in schools in our area. Our baby will be an early June baby so I guess she/he will still be in school on his/her birthday? I hope we can celebrate it there!

I have a summer birthday, August also, and growing up I hated it! Everyone was on vacation during my birthday, parties sucked! And I never got to be the birthday kid at school.

Now, my son has a December birthday and I hate it! So much stress with the holidays and since we live in a cold climate, we can't have the party outside! I imagine he will enjoy it once he is in school, but really, it is causing me a lot of work this year, and will every year.

when i was growing up, my mom would bake cupcakes and pack bag of favors (candy? can't remember) for me to hand out to everyone. that was like 20+ years ago. i heard now, schools are stricter about what you can bring (no sweets, i'm sure).... i guess i'll have to see what my kids' schools allow.

Even though my birthday was during the school year, we never did anything special at school. A lot of my classmates didn't either.

Haha! That is something I have always thought about! DH wants a summer baby because "there is more to do in the summer for a birthday then the winter", but I'm always like "but what about celebrating at school?!"

My birthday is in April, so I was always able to take treats on my birthday (unless it landed on Good Friday or we had a snow storm and closed school - that happened quite a bit). It was always fun to get to celebrate yourself for a bit at school! DS isn't in school yet, but his birthday is in February, and I will make sure he always has treats and feels special even at school on his birthday!

Our daycare throws a little party for the kids. I'll probably take in little favors and maybe cupcakes for all the kids on Charlie's birthday. He already knows the happy birthday song from singing it in daycare.

I am a summer baby (WOO AUGUST LEOS!)

I remember always being sad that I couldn't get to celebrate my real birthday during the school year. My mom did bring in treats on my half birthdays a few times, but I also hated that my friends couldn't decorate my locker during my teen years because of my summer birthday!

For that reason (plus I don't want to be in the third trimester during MI's humid summers), I really hope we don't have a summer baby!

How do you celebrate your LO's birthday at his/her nursery/school? How did you celebrate yours at school growing up?
