It was a 2 tiered fondant creation that we absolutely loved. We did a small smash cake for him too. This year for his 2nd birthday we did a single tier cake which was awesome as well. We'll probably continue with the single tier cake each year.</p> <p>I did make the favors for his 1st birthday, which were 4 small sugar cookies decorated with royal icing in a clear plastic box tied with a ribbon. I'll never do that again!!! It's kind of a tradition in our family (and in some circles of our friends) to make baby's first birthday cake, as opposed to buying it. I did cheat a little, and used a bought cake mix, but I made the icing from scratch, and obvs decorated it myself.<br /> So, whether completely or semi-homemade, did/will you make your LO's first b-day cake? </p>
