I know this is weird but I can't stop! He is not always a willing participant, but for Christmas he gave me an otoscope and it has revolutionized the time I spend looking in his ears. Also, immediately after looking in his ears with the otoscope for the first time I pretty much dragged him to prompt care and made him get his ears irrigated. It was really really really disgusting, but it's made a huge difference in his hearing! Since his ears were so impacted, I try not to actually put my fingers in his ears anymore - I just look with my handy otoscope. But I do do some "grooming" of him...he cuts his own nails, but I sometimes tweeze hairs and such. I don't "clean" his ears per say, but he sometimes gets dry skin in them, so I'll pick it out, (we call them "ear flakies")...he loves it. If it's been too long since I've done some of the stuff, he gets pouty.
