I do have a personal savings/checking account back in my home state that I haven't gotten around to closing or moving the money over to our shared account. It's a credit union only in my home state, and I only go back once a year usually after work hours. But we found out that they don't allow joint accounts in Japan and everyone has their own accounts. So we ended having to each open an account. Since I don't work, hubby just transfers money into my account. I kept my original accounts and added my husband, but mainly because my student loans are through the same bank and it is easier to pay bills that way. Our main account is my husband's original account, which has most of our bills payed out of already anyway from when we lived together before being married. </p>
